THE THEORIES

Concerning this 666 and name-number theory.

Gale Bertram=666

Tom=666

Reede=666

vanPelt=666

Patrick=666

Stiles=666

Raymond=666

Sheriff=666

Robert=666
Red=666
Red John=666
...

Don't think, that this is a clue.

btw. the results, if 666 is in the name, are obviously correct, but the way, that is shown, is wrong. But it works when you sum every value up with 1.

RJ is absolutely NOT one of the 7. I cannot imagine that anyone still believes this. Patrick Jane gave the list of 7 to Lorelei. She knew who RJ was so she went looking to kill him. When she was captured, and probably tortured, she gave RJ the list as Jane anticipated bc she wants RJ dead and thought this would give Jane a huge advantage. I believe it will almost certainly turn out that RJ uses the power of the tyger, tyger organization and his control over those under him to peg the entire Red John image on someone else like Bertram, only Jane will know that none of those men are really RJ. What we know: RJ is almost certainly between 39 and 50 years old. His first murder occurred in 1998 (almost 26 years ago now), so if he started at 14 (a true sociopath), he would be 39, and if he started at a more advanced age, say 21-23, he would be no more than 50. There is one complication. His partner Orville Tanner, assuming they are at least similar in age (Red John would almost certainly be the same age or older, as Orville claimed to just be the lookout), has a son Dumar who was in his late 20's to early 30's, a few seasons ago. He was born before Orville went to jail, so sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. This puts Orville, and probably RJ more towards the higher end of that spectrum, around 47-53. I think it is very safe to say RJ is no older than 55. This eliminates: Stiles, Smith, Patridge, and possibly Bertram and McCallisterHe at some point in the mid 90's to early 2000's had short straight hair. Rosalind describes him as such, which also gives us more background to his age. 15-20 years ago, Rosalind would have been very young, and it seems unlikely that even being blind she would be so comfortable with a man significantly older than her. Also, Lorelei (who is quite attractive) would seem unlikely to find someone in their 50's (6 years ago) so intriguing. I think this puts him squarely in the late 40's to early 50's category. It also firmly eliminates Bertram (bald), and completely eliminates Stiles and McCallister in age. He has great posture and is fit. Goodbye Smith. Partridge is dead. Kirkland is dead. Smith is out (too young, too fat), Stiles, Betram and McCallister are out. We are left with Haffner. He squeamish nature towards spiders, connection to the cbi and visualize, and sudden hiring as the security director of visualize seem to scream Red John. He is also the correct age. However, I find a few things stand out: He and Jane would NEVER be friends, and I find them to be quite opposite, not at all similar. He doesn't seem very sharp, and, if Lisbon is correct and he was 21 during the barn killings, seems a tad young. Also, I find it hard to believe he would be able to have someone like Bertram working FOR him as RJ, while Bertram was older and more accomplished in the CBI. So, that eliminates the 7. And leads to who it might be. My theory is that Van Pelt is 100% directly connected to RJ, either knowingly or unknowingly. Her religious belief (and the odd conversation between Jane's old carney adversary about Lisbon's cross), her constant antagonizing Jane about psychics being real, her red hair (everyone with red hair that is recurring has a direct link to RJ), being engaged to O'laughlin, being the one who has everyone bugged, etc. all lead me to believe she is somehow connected. And also Jane asserting that she has some terrible memory that she has never dealt with a tries to block out. My guess is there is a football -> roll tide -> Christina frye _> RJ connection to this story. But, I am certain that Rj is not one of the 7.

This is not a theory, I just want to try and explain a scene that we've seen in the last episode (fire and brimstone).
Near
the end of the episode where PJ gathers the three suspects with the tattoos near the window and aimed at them with the shotgun, we see a flash of light and we hear a gunshot. Heller probably wants us to think that PJ shot a suspect (for those of you who think it's not Jane who fired but the others behind his back, I tell you it's impossible, simply because the shot we heard cannot be a pistole's shot because it's too loud). Well I'll explain why he shot the shotgun, be very attentive:  remember earlier before they came to the house, he brought the shotgun with him, he went to the room where his wife and daughter were killed, as if he meditated one last time before killing RJ, then, he went to the other old house, he laid down the shotgun on the table, responded to Theresa's call, and then in what seems to be a hurry he opened the safe to take a gun, a pistole to be specific. Look closely what at he did with the pistole, he verified it was loaded, we can see the ammunition.We have some questions here, why would he need a second gun if he has already gun, and a shotgun at that is more trusty than a handgun, why would he make sure the pistole is loaded and not the shotgun. Now, here is the catch: the shotgun he brought from that shady guy is a fake, or to be exact, it shoots blanks. Now you ask me why did he need a fake gun with blanks, if he already had a pistole. I think that PJ anticipated the scenario where more than one suspect will have a tattoo, that's why he acted quickly and didn't hesitate when he saw 3 of them having the tattoo. He gathered them near the window and then shot the blanks. But for what reason you say? Here's the reason: to see their reaction when they think they're gonna die, after all a man only shows his true nature in the face of death. So PJ wants to see their micro expression/reaction in the lastest moments when he shots the gun, even if it is a blank it will do the job eventually, and let's not forget that PJ is no normal man, he is in fact a "Mentalist", and he will most probably pick up the smallest clues in that brief moment of panic and distress.

Thank you for reading, please comment on any ideas or questions you might have.

Just a bonus: Bertram's reaction in that episode was too suspicious, also when PJ tells them that one of them is RJ, they either laughed (Styles and Smith), or were scared (Haffner), or even made a facepalm (McAllister), except for Bertram, who didn't seem surprised and asked him back: "Who is it?". it almost feels like he's RJ and is taunting Jane. Well, it would be a logical reaction from him if it were the case.

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Just a point to note about the TV Guide interview:
If the actor who played Red John was surprised, I think it goes without saying that the same actor did NOT do the previous RJ voice overs.

I really began to wonder, because I agree with those who say the voice sounds just like Partridge.

the whole RJ finale seems like a big disappointment. Someone that apperared in very few episodes the past 6 years, someone with no emotional connection with the main cast. RJ will prove to be either someone totally indifferent to the series (like Mcallister or Reede) or obviously suspect (like Bertram (he even said it himself he is duplicitous)) or Haffner-Kirkland (with obviously suspect behaviours in their few appearances) or Stiles (what a surprise, wow) or Partridge who was the main suspect from s01e01. I mean whoever from them is RJ, in my opinion the writing is just bad. No drama, no surprise, nothing! RJ is just another crazy bad guy.

That said, there are other good series out there, fortunately!
P.S. I will take everything back if the writers surprise us with someone else, but I sincerely doubt it.

Just a thought.

Anyone else think it would be weird for RJ to be killed or even captured half way through a season?  Usually big events like that happened at the season ending episode.  My thought it we will learn who RJ is at the episode called Red John (8) since that is the title of the episode and the episodes after have different colours in the titles, but it would make sense for the climax to happen at the end of the season.  Am I right?

Thoughts

Thanks

PS I still think its Partridge lol

It's not Gale Bertram, or Bret Stiles, but most likely is a tag team made up of:
Kessie Dunninger
Hollis Dunninger
Mandy Schultz
Gangs recruited by these three

Let's look at why these three, or at least, Kessie and Hollis anyway.
Kessie Dunninger from "Redemption".
Why?
1) She has red-hair, so could well be the 'Red John' - the 'Red' part anyway.
2) She may be tag-teaming to do the Red John, she being the thinker and the 'John' being the doer [although who the John is, well, open to question)
3) There has been this theory going round on a few websites discussing The Mentalist. It makes enough sense in context.

But who could Red John's accomplices be:
1) Her dad Hollis, the 'John' of the partnership; this theory was posted on a showbiz site in the UK. 'John', if you think about it... 'John' being slang for an everyman, an average man.
2) Mandy Schultz (who apparently made a cameo during one of the episodes which had Lorelei in it) - helping Kessie plan the murder? (that theory was posted on a website few months back).
3) A small gang of people that are recruited to carry out these murders recruited by the Red John team.

It would not surprise me if Red John was a non-existent person, and just a pseudonym for a group of people, a 'house name' for a murderer if you like.

Theories about it being the CBI / FBI etc. could be debunked based on this line of reasoning; I'm surprised that the characters of Kessie and Hollis Dunninger and Mandy Schultz haven't been added to the accuse list on the site!

The motive, though, is a little fuzzier, but British fans continue to debate why.

I would be surprised to see what your comments are on this theory; it does make a bit of sense, and is widely popular with British viewers.
I am a UK viewer of the show, just for the record.
