http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KEpoGUfzt4 Listen carefully to that sound around 19-21s when smiley face appears. If i remember correct, that sound is played often when something with RJ is shown to us. Now rewatch last seconds of episode 6x08. That sound appears again, and a while later we are seeing back of a man with a child (also we hear creepy laugh and another weird sound).
Maybe that's the real RJ? Especially that episode is also named "Red John" :D.

The person who killed Ardiles could be RJ. Why no smiley face? Coz PJ and RJ now are fighting 1v1 to see, who is better. RJ started to killing old CBI members untill PJ catch him. Patrick is last on the list :).
