It's not the episode so much that infuriates me as it is the interview with Heller. I thought the episode itself was subpar or perhaps average at best. I always thought it was Walter Mashburn, since he fit the profile, but he was always a dark horse, and as we got closer and closer to the reveal it became more and more of a long shot. But I like the actor who plays McAllister, and have nothing against how he portrayed Red John.
The thing that really infuriates me is that in Heller's interview he clearly states that he did NOT know who Red John was all along. Especially with him saying in interviews before that he DID know, and knew all along, it really gets me upset. Also, through his interview, he acts as if our interest in who Red John is and our analysis and our treating this as a show that's intelligent is just silly of us, that WE are the ones at fault here. For him to say that the reason he didn't reveal all the information about Red John was because the show is about Jane, not Red John - that's just crap. That's exactly like the Lost writers saying the show was about the characters, not the mysteries.
Heller acts like a victim in the interview, like it's OUR fault the reveal was terrible. "He is MA"? Apparently we were stupid for wondering about that. Connections to Visualize? Why would you wonder about that? Bret Stiles' relation to RJ? Not important apparently. How did he get the list? Well that's just a great big middle finger.
Oh, and Red John was defeated by a pigeon.
It's sad - one of the commenters here stated that WE care more about the show than the people who make it. I hate to say it, but he's right. Though in the interview it was pretty clear Simon Baker was upset with it all, as well. It wasn't necessarily the worst "reveal" show ever. It was simply "meh", and that's apparently our fault for wanting all those clues and all those hints to mean something, instead of taking a meaningless character and making him something he's not. I swear Heller simply did eenie meenie miney mo and just chose a nothing character to use at random.
