THE THEORIES

NO SPOILERS

I watched the leaked episode just now and I believe it's the episode that will air on Sunday, just like I believed Red John was on the list of seven.
The reveal was underwhelming for me and I have to admit I didn't really enjoy the episode. There were a number of ludicrous things that happened there so I do hope it was a fake, but somehow I doubt it.

Nothing was explained except the explosion, and that is very disappointing as fans would like to know. If Red John dies without giving an explanation, as it happened in the leaked episode, then we will never know as no one can explain it but him.

Two things don't add up for me: 1. the character that turned out to be RJ wasn't really a red herring in my opinion (as the actor suggested in the article), and 2. there was talk of two of the three 'deceased' suspects coming back, which didn't happen. Those two things give hope that it may be a fake, but then I don't see why they'd do that. What's the point? It's the ultimate Red John episode, people will watch it anyway, you don't need to tease. If anything, this will bring ratings down as some of us who watched the leaked episode will consider it to be the real deal and won't tune in on Sunday. There won't be many, but there will be a number of people who will do that and in my opinion it can only increase the dissatisfaction and decrease the number of viewers for the official airing. This is why I don't believe CBS would, for some odd reason, air a fake episode. And if they wouldn't do it (makes no sense to me), then it really was leaked, in which case the reveal is genuine and it's ruined for many.

Sorry for posting this again, but I believe it will help stop the lynching of BH and the whole series.

Ultimate proof the "leaked" episode is a fake (or at least it has been tampered with): the start and end production codes do not match. At 00.01 is 4x5608, whether at 43:36 is #3x7954 . And both of them correspond to other previously seen episodes.
Google it for yourself.

( Some speculation ...... assuming the leak is real ... )

Season 6 episode 8 seems a case of a writer getting trapped by the business side of television ...

Heller started out with an idea for who Red John was ( probably Brett Partridge ) ...

Got a deal for a few seasons of his show .... then thought to himself " well the forensics guy who is a serial killer is so cliche " ... so he came up with the Timothy Carter story line ...

Great idea ... great reveal ... and take my word on it ... that was the "real" Red John reveal ... and it was perfect ...

But Heller got called into the office by some nameless TV executive who told him  ... " No,no,no Mister Heller ... The Red John story is what keeps people interested in The Mentalist .... You have to bring RJ back to life "

So he did ... and he started dropping so many hints and took so many lines even he and his writers didn't know who RJ was ...

( Recently - Heller noted that "there were always three or four possibilities" for
Red John, saying that there wasn't an "aha" moment when he and the
writers honed in on the ultimate Red John identity. "It seems like the
natural correct choice," he added, revealing the actor was notified
about his character's Red John identity "at the very last moment and he
was thrilled." - Hollywood Reporter )

With all these dozens of loose ends and clues over the years ... tying it all together was going to be a nightmare ... So they came up with this brilliant idea " We don't have to explain anything ... because Jane doesn't care about explanations - all he wants is to do is kill RJ " ... except it's not a brilliant idea ... It's a sad cop out at about the same level as the " It was all a dream " story ending ...

Heller has already tried to lower expectations by stating viewers will be disappointed by the RJ identity ( McAllister ) ... but McAllister is a fine enough Red John .... if properly explained .... It's the writing that is disappointing ...

( As an aside .... The whole Tyger Tyger thing has so jumped the shark it has bite marks .... The head of CBI is the head of a criminal organization with hundreds of members ? Including serial killers ?  Puhhhlease ... )

Contains Spoilers!

I believe there's a mole at CBS! Think about it:

1) 11/03: Due to a late football game, the decision is made to postpone "Fire & Brimstone." Yet, at the end of the substitute/repeat, they air the promo for "The Great Red Dragon" which spoils the tattoo reveal for fans. Simon Baker appeared on several talk shows that week, but was limited in what he could say because "F & B" had yet to air.

2) 11/17: The promo for "Red John" at the end of "The Great Red Dragon" contained spoilers. Surely someone knew a simple pause or slow motion would be revealing too much.

3) 11/21: CBS posted a Behind the Scenes Featurette to their press express page. The "Red John" episode was right there. Surely they knew some might know how to access it and wouldn't keep such news to themselves.

4) 11/22: Apparently CBS themselves made public a link to a picture of Red John, spoiling the reveal for fans:

Noooooooooo. CBS has leaked a picture of Red John on ow.ly
5:26pm - 22 Nov 13

Why would CBS do this? It doesn't make any sense. One slip up, maybe, but all these together? It looks like someone inside has set out to sabotage The Mentalist. Very unfortunate!
