THE THEORIES

ok so here is what I am having a problem with: we see Lisbon hear a bang and then the house explodes. So sheriff(aka red john, unfortunately) reveals that the bang was a flash grenade which he used to knock everyone out while he got the substitute body and set up the bomb. this had to take him like at least five minutes. how does this explain the bang followed only seconds later by the explosion? I mean even people who aren't fanatics can see the inconsistency there. That is just awful writing. So please let me know if I missed something that explains this.

RED JOHN

Friends with Orville Tanner,
father of Dumar. Took Dumar under his wing when Orville died and
most probably landed him the Sheriff's job aswell.

A member of visualize who worked
at the barn back in 1988. Mcallister was most likely taken in by
Bret Stiles as a damaged man. This obviously stems from an abusive
childhood upbringing for Mcallister that probably involved abuse
from both mother and father to the point where recovery to live a
normal life was beyond him.
Stiles took him in, nurtured him
and sent him to the farm to work. It was here that Stiles realised
that Mcallister had murdered the other 2 workers. Whether Mcallister
threatened, blackmailed Stiles or Stiles simply could not have the
name of Visualize be asscociated with a serial killer they both
agreed to keep it between themselves, hence Stiles always knew
Mcallister was Red John and Red John now had leverage over Stiles.
Hence why Stiles had to die, loose end especially since he was dying
and Jane was narrowing the list.

Bosco and his team had come across
the evidence about Carter & Janet Peak, Jane realised that Red
John does make mistakes and if not for Rebecca, Bosco and his team
may have been able to identify the DNA from Carter Peak's body.

Kristina Frye is either a RJ
operative or member of Visualize. This is how RJ knew to say Roll
Tide to Patrick in the season 2 finale, this is why RJ did not kill
Frye after she went on TV and the whole zombie I'm alive but dead
thing is just an act, I mean she is an RJ operative, a self
proclaimed psychic, she would have all the skills Patrick posseses
to deceive and put on a show. This is also how Stiles knew where
Frye was in season 3 episode 1.

The person who killed Rebecca was
indeed another accomplice, the same accomplice who sat in the food
court in the red sweater.

It was the real RJ in the season 2
finale with the mask. It is the same hunting knife used by RJ
throughout, including in the scene with Lisbon where she has her
face painted in season 6 episode 1. The smiley face on Lisbon was to
show Patridges death, he never got to finish Lisbon because either
1) He had her bugged and used her for intel on Jane or 2) The
pigeons scared him away before he got to finish her off.

Timothy Carter was not a law
enforcement Tiger Tiger member, but he has no recorded past at all,
so he knew RJ from the past and it was RJ that helped him kidnap all
of the children with ease therefore Carter would do anything for RJ,
even standing in pretending to be him at the foodcourt.

How did he hook up with Lorelei? Lorelei was with him because he made her believe he had saved Lorelei from a downward spiral and that he would help her in her quest to get revenge on her sisters killer, when in fact it was him.

Rebecca followed him because as Jane said, she was a messed up kid, came from abuse etc, something RJ knew all too well about, and with Stiles taking him under his wing, showing RJ how to make followers of people, this was too easy for RJ.

The big clue in S06E01 final scene was the hunting knife, although we were not suppose to put that together until a later episode where we found out Mcallister was a hunter.

He is Mar...ked.

How was he able to buy the barn under Cut Iron properties, have limo's for his accomplices etc?
Stiles and Visualize, they funded anything he needed.

As for how he got the list, Jane knows how. But he also knows that RJ is dying to tell Jane himself. This is what get's him going, RJ wants nothing more than Janes approval, or at least to be able to tell/show him how amazing he is and how smart he is. Jane refusing to care or know how RJ did it is the ultimate insult and this is the 1 thing RJ really wanted to tell Jane more than anything, Jane knew this and never gave him the opportunity. RJ's last attempt at telling Jane he is a REAL psychic was nothing more than a last gasp attempt at making himself look divine/amazing/smart/god like in Janes eyes before he died...unfortunately for RJ, Jane already knew how he did it and killed him.

In the end, RJ was nothing more than a man, a sexually sadistic, egotistical psycho and in no way was Jane going to give him satisfaction in letting him think all he had done was to be marvelled at.

Goodbye RJ...

There is no doubt this is the true and final ending.

What a crock of shit.

In an interview with TV Guide, they specifically mentioned that Bruno Heller "chose" McAllister to be Red John about a year ago!!! - Meaning Heller had NO PLAN about who Red John was supposed to be from the very beginning.  That.  Is.  UNFORGIVABLE.  He never had a plan, never had a story.  It's why NONE of our questions will ever be answered ("He is Mar") - THERE WERE NEVER ANY ANSWERS!!!  He was making it up as he went along.

I will never watch this show again.

I liked and hated the episode.

I liked it because Jane was right all along. He was "an ugly, tormented little man. A lonely soul. Very sad," as he said on the talk show. RJ tried to play himself up as a god, probably as a way to prove Jane wrong, but once the Blake association was disbanded, he had no one to call on. He was simply a sick little man who had a bunch of "friends," who were only his friends because he manipulated them into helping him. (People joined Blake Association to cover up wrongs. Women helped him because he offered them something - a child, love, acceptance, etc...) He really did have delusions of grandeur. He even thought he was psychic.

I hated it bc it did leave a lot of unanswered questions, but I think we should start doing theories to answer those questions. I have a few below.

How did he make the list?
I think he was really smart, and has followed Jane so he deduced the same list, or he paid Sean Barlow who could be a real psychic. RJ said he was a real psychic to impress Jane one last time, poor fool.

What is "He is mar?"
I think RJ wrote this himself to screw with Jane.

Rosalind Harker's description?
The sherif probably had more hair and less fat then.

Why kill Partridge?
He was a loose end.

Kristina Frye?
Had a friend hypnotize her. I'd like to see more of Sean Barlow, that he was involved. That's a great actor, and it would give us the carny theme we were wanting with RJ.

Visualize?
I think RJ hated visualize. Probably irked him that Bret Stiles was a fake. That's why he killed the 2 Visualize members in the house explosion. He probably knew about the farm and killed everyone.

What do y'all think?

- "So Patrick, how did you catch RJ?"

- "Well, I got lucky.. The FBI sent only one car to chase me and luckily a trunk drove right in front of them allowing me to distance them and have the car stolen by some delinquents. That way I reached the cemetery easily"

- "Why the cemetery?"

- "Because i had planted a gun. Thus i offered the cemetery as a meeting point, and RJ went there thinking i hadn't planed anything"

- "But he might have tried to make sure you were unarmed ?"

- "Yes, one of the BA members frisked me, he found a non-moving thing gun but didn't feel the moving bird i had hidden in the back.. I told you i got lucky"

- "A bird? Why?"

- "Because RJ is afraid of birds. So at some point i asked RJ if I could show him something and he naively said yes and got closer to me, thinking i wanted to show him my new super cool watch".

That is basically what we had as a final showdown. Without mentioning that 5 minutes of the episode are dedicated to showing the FBI trying to guess where Patrick went and to seeing Patrick running after a marathonien RJ running with a bullet in the stomach.

Those who found that ending satisfying, you are quite gullible.

Well, I'm going to keep watching The Mentalist in hope that they tie up the billion loose ends that there is; but i doubt it.

The actors themselves, I feel, were and are brilliant. Simon Baker can do no wrong in my eyes; he's been the perfect Jane the entire way.
I'd also like to say that I have no problem with the way the last episode was acted, or that T McAllister was RJ. However you can't do the reveal in a 40 minute episode. You can't just leave so many clues like that unanswered. The list - that's just appalling because lets face it, Heller has no idea how RJ knew and he made it up. All the red herrings he has put in the previous series' have no relevance and do not fit in with the end story line.

This is why it doesn't work, because Heller doesn't know the answers himself. It now feels as if he made it up as he went along. I've loved this show for 5 years, and always will, but I will always be disappointed with the ending. You can't build up one of the most loyal fan followings in TV and leave it like that.

Lets hope he answers the lose ends in the rest of the series or in interviews at least.

In an interview Xander said that he was honored to be chosen to play Red John, but that someone else deserved it.
And in the same interview Bruno said that he had chosen Thomas a year ago, after looking at everything and choosing him in the end.
Myself i like the idea of Thomas as Red John.
Sure i hoped it would be Bob or Michael Kirkland but i still like it.
Xander is such a good actor and i just hope that he will be known by this role.

Xander thank you for the amazing series, Bruno thanks for all the years you wasted in to the series to make us intrigued and enjoy it. I'm still gonna follow it even though i said i would stop after seeing Red John, but i'm still gonna follow it!
