Who is Red John?

Theories of Redjohn45 (23)

Ben Marx was killed in Red Listed by Kirkland because of Jane's fake list.  Marx smelled of PINE and the place Kirkland owns is in the woods -- this suggests that the man who was Rosalind Harker's lover is a Kirkland -- Michael or Bob, I don't know.  Whether or not this is RJ I don't know for sure either.  Not entirely convinced all the people we think are RJ really are.

BUT, definitely think a KIRKLAND is Harker's lover.

Tattoos of three dots on the hand means "death to cops" (mort aux vaches) -- not sure what on the shoulder means -- but it seems a very common prison/criminal tattoo -- unless in the shape of a pyramid, then it has other meanings.  So, I'm inclined to think that RJ is not the one with the tattoo -- it's someone else.

RED JOHN is a WOMAN, A REDHEADED, "PSYCHIC,"  EXPERT HYPNOTIST and MASTER MANIPULATOR of MEN.

If RJ is on "THE LIST," I'd go with PARTRIDGE [presumed dead but not] [which I think is a lame choice] or KIRKLAND [because of newfound TWIN revelation] [being a better choice] -- mostly because both of these men match descriptions the best.  And then there the whole BRET STILES IS RJ'S FATHER possibility -- or that STILES is involved somehow.

HOWEVER: outside of THE LIST, my favorite suspect was Ellis Mars.  Until today, when another suspect caught my eye [though also "psychic" like Mars] after I read a post about RJ using hypnosis to make 7 suspects all act like RJ.  I realized several things!

WHAT IS JANE'S #1 RULE?!!
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PSYCHICS!

WHO is ONLY person to make JANE break HIS OWN RULE :   KRISTINA FRYE.
She beat Jane at his own "fake psychic" game.  UPON FIRST MEETING -- JANE DID NOT LIKE HER, but....

What's the perfect way to scam a scammer?  INJURE THEM -- and then COMFORT THEM.  Kristina reassured Jane when she claimed his wife told her that his daughter never woke up to feel pain or know what RJ did, gaining his sympathy, making him CRY -- eliciting emotions and manipulating him because Jane WANTED to believe it [the alternative too horrifying to imagine].  And Jane should really know better because...

JANE FELL FOR HIS OWN GAG -- [the very tricks he used on others NOW being USED ON HIM [PURE BEAUTIFUL IRONY] BECAUSE --- he's as emotionally vulnerable as anyone he ever counseled or preyed on in the past -- and while his "fake psychic wing has been clipped," so to speak -- Frye is still strong, flying high as a con artist -- and she succeeds in creating a "transference" -- whereby Jane will associate feeling closer to his wife and daughter through her  [even though she's likely the one who HAD them killed]  [BRILLIANT].

KRISTINA [means a Saint who was tormented by her Pagan Father] FRYE [child or offspring]:  clearly, Kristina Frye is likely the illegitimate child of a very powerful man, like say Bret Stiles, perhaps?

Now, getting back to Jane's perception of KF, and subsequently ours, too -- we're made to believe perhaps she really IS a psychic -- or at least a healing, kind woman -- and maybe even a suitable romantic match for Patrick!!  They were like dating, right?!  And Kristina tries to talk to RJ, fearless in her good deed [BALONEY].  But then, oh, no -- RJ kidnapps FRYE and puts her in "catatonic" state --- and she's reduced to a helpless victim [MORE baloney].  When Jane did a seance/hypnosis to test FRYE -- and got nothing --- thereby rendering her performance as "genuine" --- it's worth noting that Frye is the ONLY character in the ENTIRE MENTALIST history that 1) successfully manipulated Jane and that 2) JANE COULD NOT READ.    Because...

IN SEASON ONE, EPISODE 7:
Jane was sure that Kristina Frye was the killer of a wealthy woman run down by a car --- as deceased woman left Frye all of her money and had been paying her thousands every week for "psychic" readings.  BUT despite Jane's best efforts -- HIS MENTALIST TRICKS DIDN'T WORK ON FRYE.  He could't get her to crack or show anything.  At the end  -- the woman's daughter admits to driving the car that ran her mother down -- a little TOO easily, if you ask me.  The girl breaks down and the case is solved.  BUT I THINK KRISTINA HYPNOTIZED DAUGHTER to do the dirty work, to give herself away.

Also -- I wrote about SEASON ONE CLUES to RJ's IDENTITY in #8676 yesterday, and then I read a post where someone suggested that RJ has been using the seven suspects on the "List" to make them all ACT LIKE RJ at one time or another through hypnosis.  So, GETTING BACK TO THEORY THAT RJ IS MANY PEOPLE -- but not because they are willing in it [like they are inTiger Tiger] -- but because they are being hypnotized and USED when RJ needs them.
TWO THINGS I KNEW FOR SURE:  1) HYPNOSIS WAS BEING USED and 2) RJ connection to REDHEADED WOMAN but I OVERLOOKED relating this to the 7 suspects as I'd gone off thinking RJ was on the list -- until I realized that  A repeating PLOT THEME from SEASON ONE is the missing puzzle piece:  A WOMAN USING MANY MEN to kill for her.

Episode 3:  TEENAGE GIRL kills to protect a group of teenage boys.  THEN, boys kill for HER.
Episode 8: a WOMAN HYPNOTIZES men to kill for her, [including her sister].  She also puts Rigsby under her spell.
Episode 21: A CON WOMAN, who CHANGES IDENTITIES to con men out of money.  BUT a smart mentalist woman like Kristina Frye -- could just use OTHERS to BE HER IDENTITY, changing people as needed.  What a brilliant disguise.

WHAT if the man Lorelei knows is separate from the man Rosalind Harker knows?  If these two women genuinely know these men -- but the men are separate -- it truly makes it much harder -- especially if these men are used only for a short time as pawns in a scene that RJ is trying to create for PJ -- going back to their usual normal everyday identities when she no longer needs them -- them never knowing what they just did having been under hypnosis.  A game carefully orchestrated.

So, just because Jane accepts that Frye is a RJ victim doesn't mean we have to -- and who knows what he's really thinking -- perhaps he knows he'd have to wait a long time to really catch her.  That the trap he'd have to set for her would be to "play" along for a while.

SEASON ONE CLUES and Kristina Frye:  She's a...

REDHEADED WOMAN
PSYCHIC
probably USES HYPNOSIS
FOOTBALL -- "ROLL TIDE" might be a "key word" in hypnosis

However, there is still much to be revealed.  I have a feeling I'm at least hitting on some truths but likely there will be twists none of see coming.  At least, I hope so.  I don't think, as much as anyone enjoys theorizing, that we want to 100% completely figure it out.  I hope to be surprised with things I didn't think of, but it's fun to guess in the meantime.  CHEERS!

SEASON ONE -- CLUES TO RED JOHN'S IDENTITY

I re-watched Season One looking for repeating THEMES. Here are the things I found that made me wonder [this is only Season One]:

1.  A TATTOO -- of a grim reaper with red hair is zoomed in on immediately into SEASON ONE PILOT.  We now know THIS IS A CLUE -- as RJ has an important, identifying tattoo.  [SEASON SIX "The Red Tattoo"]

2.  CLOWNS -- Jane is repeatedly referred to throughout SEASONS ONE as "a clown."  Besides Jane's carnie upbringing, RJ paints a smiley face in victim's blood that I think is actually is a SAD CLOWN.  THIS IS A CLUE -- as RJ painted Lisbon's face as a "sad clown" [SEASON SIX "Desert Rose"]

3.  TWINS and/or DOUBLE PERSONA -- in SEASON ONE the repeated use of names that mean TWIN, like THOMAS and TOMMY, as well as TAMZIN [also TWIN] -- as well as the SEASON ONE FINALE of RJ kidnapping TWINS, and killing one - made it clear that TWINS IS A CLUE -- RJ suspect KIRKLAND has a TWIN, MICHAEL [SEASON SIX "Red Listed"]

The name THOMAS also turns up in DOUBLE PERSONA characters -- like Tommy Olds [and later Tommy Volker] .  THOMAS MCALLISTER has a DOUBLE PERSONA [
 true identity seems questionable ]

4.  CORRUPT LAW ENFORCEMENT WHO ARE KILLERS -- In Season One:
 1) We meet Sheriff Thomas McAllister              2) a Cop kills and kidnapps two women  3)  another Cop pays off a secret daughter; tries to get his son, a rookie cop, off a murder charge 4) Lawyer whose childhood and father were ruined by Jane's advice seeks revenge 5) Sheriff Hardy -- DuMAR Tanner THIS IS A CLUE -- we now know that TIGER TIGER exists and there are many corrupt law officials [SEASON SIX, "Red Listed" again]

5.
REDHEADS -- Season One episodes are filled with redheads but mostly -- REDHEADED WOMEN, and I think THIS IS A CLUE that is yet to be revealed.  We've been led to think RJ is a redheaded man -- but I don't think so.  He's either 1) a SHE -- a redheaded woman, or, more importantly, I think 2) RJ is someone who really likes redheaded women [like Rosalind Harker, Kristina Frye and even Brenda Shettrick, all of which he spared.  In fact, I can't think of a redhead that RJ has killed?  Even Lisbon has an AUBURN tint in her hair a lot.

6.  ILLEGITIMATE CHILDREN [kept a secret] -- only two episodes focus on this but it seemed worth noting

7.  PINEAPPLE --  I know this seems random but I wrote down ANYTHING that repeated: and PINEAPPLE was in 3 episodes of Season One, so go figure?!  Twice it was debated as a pizza topping [Cho hates it; Grace likes it] and the 3rd time -- a killer has a pineapple air freshener, and it's a clue in finding him].  SO, either this is an INSIDE JOKE or there will be another mention of pineapple for reasons I can't fathom yet.

8.  GOLF -- 1) in the PILOT, a GOLFER is accused of killing his wife  2) a REDHEAD man killed is GOLF buddy of attorney general and the Killer rides around on a GOLF CART and 3) Jane meets a mobster on a GOLF COURSE

Also, in the Pilot -- a family named "Tolliver" -- which means the same as "Tagliaferro" or "iron cutter."  This could be golfing term as an iron is a golf club and "cutting" is actually a golf maneuver -- where you have to send the ball the opposite way of where you want it to go.  THESE ARE CLUES.

9.  PSYCHICS -- in Season one, we find out Jane was "fake" psychic; we meet Kristina Frye; we're told of Grace's Aunt Yolanda and we meet good citizen "psychic" Ellis Mars.  And It is believed that RJ has a strong opinion about psychics.  THIS IS A CLUE that has yet to be fully revealed in SEASON SIX yet but I'm expecting something to tie it up.

10.  HYNPOSIS -- repeatedly done throughout Season One, Lisbon yells at Jane more than once for using hypnosis, telling him it's illegal -- and also one episode centers around a female killer who uses hypnosis to put her henchmen in a trance to do her dirty work for her, thereby implicating themselves in crimes, even including Rigsby.  THIS IS A CLUE that will likely be revisited in remaining episodes of SEASON SIX.

11.  NAMES THAT MEAN RED:  too many to mention, of particular interest: names with MAR or MOR in them [both have DOUBLE meanings:  RED/WAR/SEA.  [From Season One: MORgan Tolliver, Dave MARtin, DuMAR Tanner, RoseMARy Tennant, Carlotta MORo, Ellis MARs, Scarlett MARquesa, Santa MARta, REDwoods, Verde MAR…and many others.]  Also  "HE IS MAR."  THESE ARE ALL CLUES…yet to be revealed.

12.  FOOTBALL -- Jane tells Van Pelt he knows her father was a football coach.  Also, a football star is killed in a Season One episode, killed by his father.  In another episode, Kristina Frye says, "roll tide" [a football mantra].

13.  WATER THEMES/BOATS/MARINAS --

Moby Dick symbolism [catching the big elusive fish and the dangers of revenge] "There she blows.."   "Your boat's on fire.."  ALSO, Jane catches killer at casino taking on "WHALES" [big gamblers] and in another episode, a guy named Tommy Olds pretends his slow [but Jane figures him out when he sees he has a copy of Moby Dick on shelf]

               1)  Man named SANDS plans to leave town on his BOAT docked in MARINA on the OCEAN; he has a picture of a BOAT on the OCEAN on his wall that holds a clue  2)  Man pretends to be slow [to hide he's a killer over a fortune made from WATER]  3) Kidnapped woman escapes, Jane hypnotizes her to reveal she was held captive in a place by the sound of running WATER -- by a RIVER  4) Man is dead tied to the anchor of his BOAT in a MARINA on the OCEAN  5) Deranged couple, the BOATwrights, kidnap and kill women  6) Teenage girl is DROWNED in trough; dumped in the OCEAN 7) Jared Renfrew and prostitute killed in a BATHTUB.

REPEATED STORYLINES:

1) A MAN KILLED BY HIS WIFE -- theme featured Five times in Season One

2) SIBLING AGAINST SIBLING -- several examples, like brother against brother in Pilot

3) INCEST: father w/ daughter; brother w/sister

4) RAPE: first THREE episodes feature this storyline

Question: do any of these themes relate to Grace or Grace's sister -- and/or Red John's past - since we know the least about these two characters

ALSO FEATURED and might be important clues:
FARMS [RJ seems to have repeated connection to FARMS]
Selling DRUGS
ABUSIVE FATHERS,
TROUBLED YOUTH [bullying]
POKER/CASINOS  [with expressions such as "catching a whale" used [meaning big spender] [WATER theme too]

What do these clues mean, if anything?
RJ has an identifying tattoo
RJ grew up around clowns or in a carnival
RJ is a redheaded woman or a man who likes redheaded women [none of victims are redheads]
RJ knows hypnosis and is passing himself off as a psychic or hates them
RJ has a TWIN and/or a DOUBLE PERSONA
RJ is a corrupt law enforcement official/or has connections that are [Sheriff Hardy, for one]
RJ grew up or has lived on farms
RJ probably had abusive father
RJ's involved in golfing
RJ really likes or hates pineapple? [LOL]
RJ's connection to water/boats/marinas?  I think RJ's fear is water [never learned to swim perhaps] [ALSO with POKER -- could be a "whale" - a big gambler -- or have a Vegas connection

COLOR SYMBOLISM:  RED, GREEN & BLUE:
WE KNOW JANE is BLUE:  blue car, blue teacup and often blue suits.  BLUE=is the color of mental clarity and wisdom, as well as communication.  But Blue gone wrong has the double meaning of deep sadness, of "being blue," which also perfectly describes Jane.

IN SEASON ONE:  when Jane wins poker spoils, he buys Lisbon a GREEN EMERALD necklace and a RED RUBY necklace for GRACE because...

LISBON is GREEN:  solid, down to earth and genuine -- GREEN is used to heal heart energy.  But Green gone wrong is envy and jealously [we saw a little of that from Lisbon when Lorelei was around or when Jane knows something and doesn't tell her, even if it's for her own good].]

GRACE is RED: there's her hair but also because she is a positive expression of the color red [so far!].  She's warm, bright, strong, passionate, having love affair with Rigsby and one of the sexier characters [though they all rate pretty high! LOL]

I have no idea though what colors Rigsby and Cho are meant to be, if any, but if I had to guess I'd think Rigsby is RED and Cho is GREEN

RED JOHN is RED gone wrong:  which includes anger, and darker themes of sex, violence and death.

SEASON ONE PILOT:  husband/wife Morgan [means RED] Tolliver kills daughter Mercy after raping her  -- and so his wife
Juniper [GREEN] kills him -- So, GREEN kills RED.  Interestingly, it is said that GREEN calms RED down/or balances -- or in this case STOPS it.

SO, first five years focused on the pursuit of RED:  RED JOHN and the personal relationship of GRACE & RIGSBY were the two biggest storylines -- And NOW, RJ will be revealed and "Grisgsby" are married.

We know new episodes are called "My BLUE Heaven" and "My GREEN Thumb" are next, likely focusing more on JANE & LISBON's relationship.

Last night, "Diamonds Are Forever," the last Sean Connery James Bond movie, circa 1971, was on the TV.

1) Diamonds were hidden by being put into a chandelier [a plot in The Mentalist, SEASON ONE Ep. 4  "LADIES IN RED"]

2)  The Bond girl was a REDHEAD

3) Played POKER in LAS VEGAS/most of setting was CALIFORNIA & LAS VEGAS

4)  went to a CARNIVAL

5)  REDHEAD played a game where you shoot water into a CLOWN FACE

6)  And the villian had  a TWIN [made through plastic surgery]

7)  Hero is a cocky know-it-all who gets the best of everyone

I think Heller must have seen this movie a few times when he was a kid LOL -- though The Mentalist is FAR better than this lesser Bond movie.

BUT if Red John is anything like this movie -- then the villian is the guy with the TWIN:  KIRKLAND [which one, I do not know]
