Heller: It was very much designed as an encore, a curtain call for the show and the audience. You don’t come out for the encore and do death metal or dark stuff.
Quitthat: Unless you are Cannibal Corpse. Can you imagine the look on the faces of their fans at the concert hearing the band play "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang" or "Sound Of Music" with accordions and fully dressed like polka yodelers? Mentalist was dark, should have ended dark, in order to stay true to itself.

Tunney: Fans of TV shows are so committed to the characters and to the story. When you do something that’s drastic like this, bringing two characters together after six years of knowing them platonically, they can turn on you really easily.
Quitthat: You don't say!?

Tunney: It’s our best version of a romantic comedy with some crime thrown in. 
It’s for the fans. 
Quitthat: Why do I feel the sudden urge to quote Lloyd Christmas? "Auffiderschnitzel"

Tunney: There’s nothing more frustrating than being committed to something for seven years and they don’t give you definitive endings.
Quitthat: Ditto. Are you sure, you're not psychic?

ETO: Do you foresee 10 years down the line, a Mentalist 2.0?
Heller: Absolutely, it’s a date. We’ll all be there in 10 years. 
Quitthat: Dream on, buddy. As the saying goes; it's not done till the fat lady sings. 
Here is the 2.0 version of the saying; Once the boss, kick-ass strong female character is reduced to a housewife, you know it's done... like the bun in the oven.

Thank You WHO IS RED JOHN? It's was great pleasure reading and sharing theories here with intelligent and creative, like-minded, true fans of the show, like yourself. 

P.S. Mr. Heller I'm keeping my Brett Partridge vote as a small token of middle finger to you. I hope you don't mind it.

I'm back... and so is Red John.
What I read here about 7x11 intrigued me enough to watch this episode. A note to all of those Red John fans who were/are disappointed by it's previous execution- You can safely watch this one. I can't tell if the remaining episodes will be worth your time, but jumping from 6x08 directly to 7x11 will make you feel like old times.

The clues and subliminal messages were dispensed one after another, and in a very good fashion. Even if they screw up the 2 episodes left you can make up your own theory about Red John, from here. And that is the benchmark for the good Mentalist show.
If you haven't seen it yet, don't read any further, as my theory will have some spoilers, but come back if/when you watched it. (Although, I might be the only one here who dismissed the whole 7th season.)

Anyway, here are my thoughts.

Gabriel,
Boy, do I like this name. Did you know that the Bible only named 3 angels? Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer (or better known as Satan) I'm sure you noticed the #3, there, and only one of them was a real piece of work.

So what does this mean? Will Jane be only happy after he kills the 3rd Red John?
"You'll know when you see it" - said Gabriel.
Going by this info, here is my theory. Lazarus is the serial killer, but he is not Red John. Red John killed Gabriel, Lazarus killed the other victims in this season.

Why would Red John return?
Because Gabriel was a real psychic and Red John knows he was talking to Jane. He knows his secret is out, even if Jane is keeping it to himself. "FAKE" on the arm was a message from Red John to Jane. It obviously means more to Jane than it means to the others.

"You'll Know when you See it"
Clue: one of the old suspects are back. Jane will catch a glance and recognize him (perhaps in the crowed at his wedding) and hell will brake loose. However, I think 3 has a different significance not referring to Red John aliases. Jane will not be happy killing Red John. Every time he does that, it brings back the memory of his loved ones, murdered by the serial killer. Relief... maybe, but definitely not happiness. What I think it means, that Lisbon will die. Jane's marriage to his first wife, didn't end well, neither will his second marriage... I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.

As you can see, I'm happy with this episode, still I'll check out this site before I'll decide to watch the last 2. Then, even if it ends like crap, I can pretend, it played out according to my theory.

An ode to Frye.

Not a bloody theory, just my observation,
this show is stuck in neutral, 
and Brüno needs castration.

Frye and whatchamacallit, had some great chemistry,
Yet it was ditched for Jizbone,
An incest and travesty.

Hypnotized long time ago, by the one known as Red,
She was under his spell then, 
But why now? When John is dead.

Death of a Vampire will lift the curse from a slave,
But Sheriff hick can hold his,
Even now, beyond the grave.

Mystery persist after killing the Hillbilly,
To shove the dove up so far,
Who gave Jane, Silly Willy?

Poor Kristina... You were served a pile of doo-doo,
You deserve a better faith,
Like a better show. we do.

Could Jane's Father Alex be the Red John?

Red John started killing 1998. We don't know where Alex was at that time. Perhaps he joined Visualize, and Stiles gave him ideas how to win his son back. Stiles always seemed to know more about Jane than just watching his TV shows. And who could tell him more about Jane than a proud or disappointed Father can?
Jane's insult over the TV, really hit Red John hard. We all expect strangers/enemy to be harsh towards us, but the biggest pain is when your family hurts you. The killing was personal, but perhaps more than we are led to believe.

Red John's letter to Jane after killing his family accuses Jane of faking his powers. Who knows the truth better than Alex?

Why did Red John paint Angela and Charlotte's toenails? Was that done to bring the attention to the hands? Pointing out that "Bite The Hand That Feeds You"

One thing I don't remember to be ever revealed is if Red John broke into Jane's house at the time of murder or was he let in? If there was no signs of forced entry then his wife knew Red John, and she must have met Alex being part of the same carnie.

He might have killed Jane's family hoping the pain will drive Jane back to him. Jane might even know that subconsciously which was reflected in the hallucination of his daughter who didn't wanted Jane to find her killer, because it might be too hard to for him to handle the truth. 

Sure, Lorelei said something about a handshake, which would make the theory ridiculous, but if she was misleading Jane to give herself time to find Red John first, then perhaps we should look at her comparison " You are just like him" and you know what they say: "Like Father Like Son" "Apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and so on so forth.

What If There Is No More Red John?

Well, I exhausted all my good theories, but what if we reached the end of the fuse and Red John really was the Sheriff who saved Jane's life despite the danger of height, just to change his mind few days later and try to reunite him with his ill departed loved ones.
It's time we face that possibility and let our imagination run wild to what may become the most pedestrian ending to a TV show ever sanctioned for extended life span.

First, we jump in time 6 years ahead.
Lisbon is still with Jane (surprise, surprise. she is not with Marcus because then we would be scratching our heads to what the heck just happened, and she is not with a completely new face either, because that would be too creative for our simple comprehension... no, she is with Jane)... and they have a child.

It's a boy. 

No it's a girl.

Oh well, it doesn't really matter what it is, IT is healthy and that's all we can hope for an offspring conceived in a relationship between two siblings. It responds to John even though it's birth-certificate indicates Brett Thomas Ray Gale Bret Bob Reede Roy Jisbon. The red dress looks fabulous on the child's first day of pre-school.

When Lisbon arrives to pick up the her...ahem... pride and joy, she is immediately importuned by the teachers to assist them in solving a crime committed earlier at the day-care. Apparently, someone dipped few pacifiers.in shet. Lisbon not having a good day herself, brushes off the offer with; "Wait few days. Whoever's pacifier remains clean is the culprit." Although, her advice seemed logical, at the same time it was dismissed as a frustrating process for the day-care owner who seemed genuinely concerned over the law suits his enterprise may face in the process. Despite the proffer of substantial bribery, Lisbon was firm in her decision displaying no interest in changing her already hectic schedule for petty matters of no-no's like the one at the hand... or should we say at the mouth.

Jane, on the other hand jumped on the opportunity to postpone his overdue chores at his domestic nest, and willingly offered his superb investigation skills to solve the mystery of the day (care). All he asked for was a cob of corn and little bit of privacy. He shielded his frolicsome actions by turning his back to all the present until his plan was fully set in motion. Once completed the task, he lined up all the kids and fed them corn like farmers fed their gooses. Afterwards, he sent them away to drink some soda pop from the baby beakers already awaiting them in the lunch room. He prevented all the grown ups from following the kids into the establishment until a sharp scream from inside ended the awkward silence.

"Aha!"

Soon as they breached the premises, a child run towards them complaining that  someone shet in his juice. Jane, without startle, cautiously lifted the lid off of the cup and vigorously stirred the liquid full of an unknown dark matter, until the foreign substance dissolved leaving a single red kernel floating on the surface. It was time for Jane to reach into his memory box to recall the exact kid he fed that red kernel to... however, to everyone's disappointment... he drew blank.

Driving home, Lisbon without uttering any words of comfort will imply with smile from the corner of her eyes, that Jane has lost his touch. Patrick will smile back with slight embarrassment hiding his shame in reciprocal silence. Once home, Lisbon runs in the house to grab the ringing phone, before the unknown caller hangs up, while Jane turns to his child:
"Don't worry kiddo! This will remain our secret." 

Oh, you are probably wondering why Shettrick? Do I really have to spell "it" out?
