Who is Red John?

Theories of JovialMonkey (1)

Okay so I'm not saying that Patrick Jane is Red John definitively. However, I take issue with all these "fans" bleating about how it can't possibly be him. I don't want it to be Jane but there is no discernible "evidence" to completely rule him out as Red John. There are thousands of fans of the show who do want him to be Red John and their opinion is just as valid as those who don't. No-one has a right to tell us how to watch the show or who to root for/hate etc.

Now to the recent Lorelei episode where she died that so many are saying proves once and for all that Jane is not RJ.....it doesn't prove anything. If anything it neatly lays subtext hinting at the possibility of Jane being involved with RJ. 1) Jane apologises twice to Lorelei. Once when she finds out RJ killed her sister; this apology is completely unnecessary if Jane is not Red John. Second time when she is found dead, followed by him saying she had it coming. Seeing as earlier he had claimed feelings for her this is a cold reaction to her death. 2) The man who Lorelei kills at the end is so happy to see Jane when he comes into the house. They have supposedly only met once before really and he says "Thank God, Patrick" (Or something along those lines) as though he knows him. He then gives up the information about Red John to Lorelei really quickly with a little bit of prodding from Jane. There wasn't enough motivation for it really but he did, as though scared of Jane or perhaps being hypnotised/unhypnotised by Jane's words.

There is times where Red John and Jane appear to be in completely different places but that can be explained by his followers etc.

If you watch it closely there are "Easter Eggs" nearly every week hinting at Jane being Red John, usually through Jane's own dialogue about himself. The subtext is there, and that is clearly deliberate by the writers of the show. This leads me to two conclusions: Either Jane is Red John or the writers don't want to permanently dismiss the possibility of it because they realise many fans love the idea and, thus, may switch off if it is not the case.

The show has been deliberately set up to allow for anyone to be Red John in the end. It leaves leeway for the story to grow. Personally, I don't think Red John has been decided on yet. I think they've left it open so as not to pigeon-hole the story from day one. It could be anyone and, for me, the mystery will always be better than the reveal.
