Some people think that because McAllister is obviously NOT terrified of heights, that he cannot be Red John because Sophie Miller's recording states that her patient (Red John) is afraid of heights. I don't agree. So this is why I think he still could be Red John:
If I were a clever killer trying to 'prove' that I am NOT a killer, maybe I would manufacture some fake evidence by telling a psychiatrist that I am afraid of heights when I actually am not - knowing that these notes would be discovered by my pursuers. I would even pretend to be trying to destroy her notes, and pretend to assume that she is not making recordings as well. Then, when an opportunity arises (no pun intended) I can 'rise to the occasion' (pun intended) and 'prove' that I am NOT the killer.
If I were a dumb and reckless killer I would divulge a very pertinent and identifying fact about myself to a psychiatrist, knowing that my pursuers are hot on my heels - even though I knew I was planning to kill her.
Not too many people can think that Red John is either dumb or reckless.
Some people are saying that McAllister is afraid of pigeons and Red John is not because the house where Partridge was killed is full of them. Possibly, but in my eyes a bit tenuous. Not liking them or being startled by one does not mean that you are afraid of them to the point where you cannot enter a house where they are present... (or does it?)
