So, there are questions about Jane, and yet, Stoopkid has made a good point about how Jane would never kill his family. I have to agree with that, especially considering that Jane has always seemed to have a special relationship with children in general.
But I also remember a movie called Shutter Island about a man that invents another persona because wanted to avoid the guilt and shame of the reality of his life: that his wife killed their children, and in turn -- when he came home and found what she had done, he killed her. The man lived in the belief that he was a marshall on the hunt for his wife's killer.
