ARGUMENTATION

I'm positive this is the real thing- suggestions to the contrary reek of denial, but that was bound to happen no matter who ended up being Red John. It's understandable and to be expected.

I actually enjoyed the reveal, and thought the acting was quite good. There seems to be a general issue with two things- the lack of explanation (which is definitely a weakpoint here; my suspicion is that Heller wanted an ending where Red John was forced to recognize that he wasn't a particularly special human being, and Jane's lack of interest is a rather extraordinary step in that direction), and his begging and dialing of 911, which again, seems to be a sign of human weakness. He overplayed his hand, and the writing and acting did a good job of dealing with that in a realistic human way. The whole 'I'm a real psychic' bit is a good last jab at Jane, especially if he doesn't know one of the tricks. Now he might have to wonder down the road.

Red John being dead doesn't necessarily mean that all the information is sealed forever. I suspect we'll never learn how he got the list as a feature of the writing, but Visualize is certainly still running around. Would be very unsurprised if they had a curiosity as to how their leader and a presumably high ranking member managed to be killed inside Jane's house, and that would open some avenues for flashbacks and exploring McAllister's connections. There are, of course, other ways to do it as well. But as an actual ending to Red John's arc, the manner of his death and his reveal- I was satisfied, at least.
