he matches all of the evidence he works high up in the CBI so it wouldn't be hard to get friends in the FBI as
rj says he has. in the episode jane goes into the limo with loralie rj has kidnapped jane's boss so only someone 
he knew well would be able to get him like that

the ammount of senseless theories here makes me want do devote my time to work on the human genome....

I am 99% shure it is Virgil Minelli...  it has to be someone older... it has to be a male...why was his charachter thrown out of the series if not to let other suspects appear as red john.. he shook patricks hand.. he has connections due to 20 years in police and 9 years as cbi boss...he likes to catch fish- as does Jason Lennon... i cant remember the number of the episode but virgils says to jane; you are not in kanzas anymore dorothy; and jane replies; if i am dorothy,who are you? he doesnt answer but its obvious-- the wizard of oz :D

its Minelli

Just a feeling.  In the episode when Bosco and his team are killed by Red John, Minelli suddenly resigns?  In first season, he goes on holidays while he suspends everyone for looking into a "friend of a friend of Red Johns", and someone logged in the DOJ system turns out to be Red John says "your doing a great job".  Every episode in later seasons that the bring Minelli back into the picture they are also closer to Red John.

It's almost like he wants Jane to find him.

The whole thing about Jane shaking his hand is a distraction.  We're watching for a specific example on camera. The hint doesn't mean that we have to see him shake hands.  He probably shook Minelli's hand when they first met.

Just my theory so far...or is it just "Horsesassary?"

 First of all Virgil has been on the top of my list for a very long time.  RJ needs to be an older person most likely a man. Rj has been killing for a long time and has influenced and mentored many people.

 Virgil had a full time job where he was able to meet Jane and shake his hand, as well he was able to control evidence and events in his favor.  Either Jane was getting to close to finding out who Virgil was or Virgil simply got bored he needed to change things up.

 Virgil retired as head of the CBI.  This enabled him to devote more time to being RJ.  Over the years many people have seen RJ and know who he was. They just would never betray him.  Virgil needed to change things up. In his leave he was able to tie up loose ends.

 Now Virgil was able to completely change things up. He had massive reconstructive surgery including voice alterations.  Introducing Red John formerly known as Virgil Minelli now known as Kirkland.

Kirkland needed to talk to Jason, because they were close friends.  When he asked one of his closest friends(Jason) if he had ever seen him before or if he reconized him it was to confirm that his makeover was successful.

After he received confirmation, he killed him quickly and almost painlessly. Kirkland said that if he was ever in this position he would hope there would be a friend to do the same for him.

Kirkland and Virgil Minelli are the same guy Red John

TAKE A LOOK AT MINELLI'S face here, how he is shocked and scared 

Alexa: I'm calling to ask a favor
Mineli: What's that?
Alexa: I would appreciate an update on the Red John case, that way when my boss asks what's going on I have something to tell him
Mineli: Why would I do that?

Could this Alexa be the friend that Red John has? If so this would make Virgil Mineli Red John  although I never really suspected him of being red john and he didn't fit the description but after watching this scene, I'm really starting to think that it could be him.

At the moment we can elimanate the following as Red John



Wayne Rigsby - when Loralie crashed her car in to him in s5e16 she was s angry and wanted to kill RJ if he was RJ then she would have killed him there and then

Patrick jane - Come on its not him so many reason that it is not him one s2e23 how can he be 2 peolpe at once s4e23 how can he be having a comversation with him self its not
him

Bertram and Kirkland - I beleive they are acomplices of RJ not RJ him self

Alex Jane - why would you shake hands with you dad and then be best friends with him

Vanpalt' Hightower' Lisbon' Shettrick' Harker' Frye' Darcy and Shultz - all are female and all of Red Johns acomplices that get caught refer to him as a HE and that he loves them and sttufe he has to be a guy unless they have all been lyeing

Brett Stiles - could be him but i reckon way to obveous

Angela jane ruskin - jane saw her body and said that her toenails were painted with her owen blood so she is dead  



Thats all I can think of at the moment but there are defintly more really that leaves us
Cho' Ron' Minalli' Laroche' Ardilles' Halfner' and then the other few peolpe that come and go kinda thing personly I think it is Minalli as in season 5 episode 5 where it shows jane as he first begins at cbi ande he wants the Red John files but theyc ant just give them to who ever wnats them so Minalli as RJ wants Jane to have them so comes up with a plan you renember the other cop that was there i cant renember his name who walked to the elevator with Jane then Jane pissed him off and the other guy punched Jane in the face renember?

Then they took him in sat him down and Manalli especaly was concerned about him presing charges i think thats right  well what if the other cop was an acomplice of RJ (Minalli). then Minalli told him to get Jane angry and to punch him so that they could give him the RJ files as like a gift for his word that he wont press charges as he wanted Jane to try and catch him what do you think ?

Who (like Jason Lennon) likes fishing, was in the cbi for a short while watching Jane before the deaths of bosco and his team, and has underground ways of getting information from people, Virgil Minelli of course, if he isn't red John then Jason Lennon was just a throwaway accomplice, why reveal he was a keen angler?

Also we now know it's noone from the team because why didn't lorelei try and kill them there and then at lennons home
