THE THEORIES

Hey people!

I'd like to put my finger on some misguided thoughts that some of the posters display here:

1- RJ's voice being very similar (and to some, the same as) to Partridge. Yes, we have all figured that out with our medium brains and Jane being (at least presented to be) "a master in details" have not. Wouldn't that be stupid? I mean, this show is based on PJ hunting down several murderers (and also red john) by figuring out such small/hidden details when the others keep staring like monkeys? If it wasn't the voice but a scent or parfume, maybe you can't accuse someone in particular because there might be many people out there to wear it. But voice? C'mon...

2- People accusing Bertram, Haffner, Smith, Mc Allister, etc. (the whole lis7) are blind enough to see that this show has never given us what's coming before it actually comes? I mean for some cases, I pointed right to the possible killer(s) but it was nothing than a hunch/instinct/wild guess. It was never a reasonable deduction/induction from my side. So, I do not believe that Red John can be identified so easily by the given hints (red herrings) about all those suspects. The key here is to keep us unsuspected about the one to be revealed soon. People may say that Heller said in an interview that the audience will be disappointed about the identity of Red John. Yes, correct... but if you read that interview thoroughly, you will see what he actually means. He says that when such a criminal is hidden from sight for the whole show, every single person creates a superior image of the villain in his/her mind and seeing him in flesh and bone finally, never meets your expectations because your imagination has put him in a higher ground already. This is why we'll be disappointed. Whoever RJ is, we will be disappointed. This is what he means. Of course, we will have some kind of closure in our minds but our super-villain will still look a little plain no matter how well the actor plays him.

For me, either RJ will turn out to be none of the LIS7, or there will be a HUGE twist on the identity of one of those guys. Otherwise, the whole show goes to trash. Tell me if I'm wrong... Thanks for reading!

There is one thing weird with red john. He has hacker-informatics, explosive-bombs , forensics-doctor knowledges. Who fits this whole profile in the mentalist?

It's not theory per se, but a little complaining about this season...To be honest, much of RJ plot has no sense. For example, the list of seven: why there are persons like Reede Smith? There is not even one on screen evidence, that he could be RJ.  It seems like Patrick didn't figure out the suspects - is he blind following the list provided by RJ?!

There are some ESSENTIAL clues missing in this season, like his physical desription, wealth, "he is mar" etc. If we don't get all the explanations, the shows main theme will became pointless... (well it happened before, for example "Lost")

There's another thing. I have idea how to catch him, and it's better than looking for tattoos, but alibis. Yes, alibis - we know moments, when RJ was visible on screen, for example in "Red Sky in the Morning". It would be very easy for Lisbon's team to check when, where etc. our suspects were. They have resources and access to many databases. Not to mention a lot of friends, who could do some favours...

So the truth is, that if Heller don't do something BIG, something suprising, it will be a huge disappointment. Problem is, no one from the remaining three fits Red John's profile in 100%:

Reede Smith - are you kidding me?

Thomas McAllister - it would be cool to see RJ being someone who was there from the start (Partridge! :( ), but do you remember second episode, when he tried to learn rock, paper scissors? His apperance was embarassing even for a hoax. It's just not suitable... And he became somewhat sinister in this season, and it seems to me like being out of character.

Gale Bertram - well there were some clues, but to be honest, it's similarly to McAllister... remember, he needed advices on how to play poker from Jane... don't you think it would be a little ridiculous?

No one's from those three is charming and no one's got a soft voice...And I don't think any of them could hide a small fortune.

I would love to see "Mentalist" even without RJ plot, but I'm afraid the show will jump the shark.

This is more a series of observations on the current season than a theory.

I have always been a fan of the show. The Red John mystery has kept us engaged for so many years because clues have been released slowly and poignantly. The current series has undermined that system, by throwing  a blizzard of half-baked clues and red herrings at us to the point that each of the names on the list of seven (and at least three not on the list) could be Red John. After such a slow, laboured and brilliant build-up, things suddenly feel rushed and careless.

The joy of the show was deduction. A quick look at the latest theories posted on this site shows us how far this series has removed itself from that. We are now left to suspect the likes of Michael Kirkland- a character of which we had no knowledge up until a few weeks ago. This isn't crime-writing at its best.

The Tiger / Tiger conspiracy has been a let-down of epic proportions. For me, the scene in which Reede Smith utters 'Tiger, Tiger' to the prison van driver who immediately repeats the words is the worst in The Mentalist's history. I literally didn't know whether to laugh or cry that all of the subtleties of the past seasons had been reduced to a such a farcical conclusion.

I will of course keep watching and really, really hope that Heller and the team manage to pull this series back.

LOL after reading all these different theories which each person wanting Red John to be so and so, and saying they would be dissapointed if Red John were someone else, I really feel sorry for Heller. He has hyped Red John up so high that honestly, there is no way he can end this series without lots of people being dissapointed

Bob killed a witness in hospital who knows who is red john. I think in-fact he was his brother. bcz  Bob would not kill that guy, but he would torture him.
