Here is my latest theory concerning Red John... Honestly I don't think Jane has a clue who he is. I think Red John from the beginning, was involved with the Tyger Tyger Organization, but then wanted out of it for some undisclosed reasons. Because Red John wanted out, the organization wouldn't let him or something along the lines that sort of drove Red John over the edge, or drove him towards revenge. From the beginning, Red John has tried to take down the organization, but couldn't. His first assignment in the Tyger Tyger organization was to kill Jane's wife and kid, however, since Tyger Tyger forced Red John to kill Jane's family, Red John could not live with the guilt. So Red John tried to take down the organization by carefully planning murders, however he failed to take down the organization. So, in the spirit of Redemption, Red John realizes that Jane has the only ability to take down the organization...From the beginning Red John has been leaving bread Crumbs for Jane to follow so that Jane becomes closer and closer to realizing the Tyger Tyger Organization. The way he did it, was the first time they met face to face, Red John told Jane the Tyger Tyger poem, making Jane think that the poem was connected to Red John, he did this so that Jane would pursue him or continually follow the "bread crumb trail" because of the association between Red John and Tyger Tyger. Additionally, since Red John was familiar with some of the main leaders within the Tyger organization, he knew their characteristics. Planning to "kill" Jane's Memory, Red John did that so Jane would figure out that he did that by visiting Jane's psychiatrist. Before-hand, Red John visited the psychiatrist to plant the characteristics of the organizations leaders as a profile for himself, because once again, he knew that Jane would try to pursue anything that was associated with Red John, and by doing so, Jane was closely exposed to the Tyger Tyger organization or "the bigger problem". This would also explain how Red John knew Jane's suspect list, it's because Red John knew that the clues he left Jane would lead him to choosing the leaders of the Tyger Tyger Organization. This entire time, Red John has been using Jane to take down the Tyger Tyger Organization to take Revenge... Ironic, because Jane wants to take Revenge, on Red John, who is using Jane as a tool, to take Revenge on the Organization that caused Jane to want to take Revenge.
The very theme of this show is revenge for the
Tortured soul, but if Jane is caught up so much on his own revenge, he doesn't realize that Red John is also a Tortured Soul, trying to seek revenge.
What if the only way to truly find out who Red John is, is to sympathize with his Tortured Soul...
It is a theory anyway.
