THE THEORIES

Simon Baker's actuall quotes:
1)
"I get such profound satisfaction working with Bruno, because he understands me and I understand him. It's really pure luck we found each other. It's very rare. I can be a real pain in the ass with the wrong types of people. The last thing I want to do is come to work each day and not be challenged. What's the fun in taking it easy? Let's push it!" -----Yeah man you really pushed that one, good job.

2) "
Bruno appreciates the genesis of the Patrick Jane character, what drives him, and that he comes from a very tragic place. And you can't fluff it off. You have to honor that." -----Best honoration ever Simon and Bruno, or should I say: The Dynamic Duo ?

3) I don't ever want to mess up the experience for the audience. I want them to enjoy the show as much as they do, from the first episode to the very last. I don't want to screw up that relationship at all. -----I don't know what to say, really.

REALLY SIMON ?! really? If he had any balls, he would have said: "I won't play this, this is bullshit and you are ruining 8 years of my work...of our work" It didn't happen. I hope he will watch the finale sometimes and tells himself: "Maybe I could have prevented this from happening, maybe I could have done more." Such a shame and disgrace. Ruining this beatiful, well-written story and for what? MONEY? Shame yourselves, all you greedy bastards.

Question:  We first meet Kirkland back when Lisbon is investigating Volker, right?   We know why "homeland" was investigating Red John (personal vendetta), but did we ever figure out why Kirkland was warning Lisbon off Volker?

The Pike/Lisbon/Jane love triangle is progressing in the most predictable way imaginable. What do you guys think of the idea of Pike actually being a red herring...i.e. a fake boyfriend?

Jane is the one who suggested that his unit help out the Art squad.  Since when does Jane go out of his way to help anyone.  And Lisbon was incredibly flirtatious with him in that stolen art room.

What if the whole relationship is a fake for the benefit of the prying eyes within the FBI?  Everyone there thinks there is something between Jane and Lisbon.  Lisbon threatening to leave for DC gives Jane a plausible excuse for going off the deep end and breaking the rules...thus leading to this grand jury indictment.

What if that was the plan all along?  Ingratiate himself with the FBI - gain their trust. Then force the FBI's hand to get him indicted, thus giving him a public platform to.....do....something.  Not sure what.

Grasping at straws I know...but it is a fun idea.

There is this ridiculous ad campaign for Longines (a watch company).  Simon Baker is looking at a horse. It is really weird.  But...it DID remind me of something.

Jane now regularly wears a wristwatch.  He never used to before Season 6 right?  I'd say that it is a mentalist 2.0 addition but he wore a watch on "Red John".  Weird, right?

Time seems to be a big theme of this season.

So I (very rudely) started posting this another another man's (or woman's) theory so I'll repost it here.

I'm starting to think that the whole "old gang" is in on the kidnapping - which would explain why the gang went out for a drink (so that VanPelt could be left alone in the Red motel) and why Lisbon demured (so that she could help set up the caper).

It is a very Mentalist-y twist - a la "Crimson Hat" where Jane fake murdered Lisbon and Rigsby.

Haibach is a decoy villain because he is easily riled.  That is why Lisbon chooses him when Jane asks about their hunches.  He is used to draw out the real killer.

If the real killer has eyes within the FBI, it would be one explanation for why everyone was acting so weird around each other.

Or, it is possible that Rigsby and VanPelt weren't even privy to the plan until Lisbon starts to stage the fake kidnapping.  (Perhaps Rigsby doesn't even know it is fake during the episode.)

This would kind of make this episode like "The Mentalist - Greatest Hits" because it draws on a lot of elements and twists that we've already seen and would be a good farewell to Rigsby/GVP.

Eh?
