THE THEORIES

I'm so f***ing glad this massive train wreck of a show is coming to an end. It was so great for about four, maybe five seasons, with all that build up and intrigue of the Red John mystery. Then we finally had a final list of suspects! Jane narrowed it down! We were going to know who the killer of Jane's wife and daughter was and how he got away with everything!

And then it was Yosemite Sam, the rootinest, tootinest, shootinest Napa County Sheriff ever, who is afraid of birds and can run through glass doors while shot with little effect, but can't outrun a guy who never does any physical activity, and doesn't have any back up weapons. The woman in the church? Never found anything out about her. The list of Blake Association members? That went nowhere.

Bruno Heller, screw you. There's a reason I don't watch Gotham (well, besides it's a dumb idea to do a Batman show WITHOUT Batman).

You broke my heart. This show broke my heart by being good and then destroying itself in a blaze of incompetence.

If you don't recall my review of the conclusion of the RJ arc, it's here: http://otakurevolution.com/content/pigeon-holed-the-mentalist-flips-fans-the-bird-or-red-red-whine

Here's my music video sendoff of the arc: https://vimeo.com/80520750

Also, Red John should have been Haffner. Visualize member, shook Jane's hand, has an interest in Lisbon, has an anger inside him, access to CBI information. Probably really narcissistic.

Whatever. We'll always have Seasons 1-5.

Tyger, Tyger.

Seeing a photo of Reed Diamond & Malcolm McDowell together made me start daydreaming again about them returning to The Mentalist as Haffner & Stiles...I imagined Ray was whispering to Bret, "The WIRJ fans are in for a BIG surprise! Wish I could see their faces when we turn up alive!" Wishful thinking I know...but it was a fun 30 seconds while it lasted. ;-}

A member of the Pretty Little Liar cast said recently about A (their equivalent of Red John) "Everyone will freak out because it's so clearly in every episode," he adds, laughing. "When it's finally revealed, you could literally go back to season 1 and knowing who it is, you can be like, 'Oh, wow. Whoa. This has been here all along, and I never noticed it,' which is, I think, brilliant."

To those who still don't understand that some of us are annoyed by the "little reveal" it is because we expected exactly that, to freak out, to think to ourselves "Wow, crazy, brilliant" and to watch it again thinking "Wow, crazy, brilliant". In a word we had expectations.

First, thank you to those who have partcipated in my
little informal survey and commented.

I don't think The Mentalist is going to revisit the Red John storyline. In my mind it ended with 602, and it's up to my imagination how it went from there.

However, we did get a lot of great RJ scenes before then, so what are yours top 3 favorite RJ-related scene? A scene where they're talking about him counts.

Mine are

1) Blinking Red Light: when Patrick manipulates Panzer to insulting Red John on tv so RJ would kill him, and then RJ does kill him. That was extremely powerful and the last thing I imagined Jane would ever do.

2) The whole last part of the season 2 finale. *Shivers*

3) The end of Desert Rose (601) when RJ calls Patrick from Theresa's phone. "Sorry Patrick. Theresa can't come to the phone right now. Can I take a message..." And he's all casual. Awesome scene.

And of course there were many more great scenes, so what are your all favorites?

There was something about the Mentalist fandom (those who make an effort to watch the show regularly) that had me really confused. Why did so many not like the Red John storyline and were eager for it to end? Afterall, there were only a handful of RJ-centered  episodes in a season(not counting s6). The great majority of the episodes were Jane and CBI doing their thing solving the cases of the week. So why in the world were people so eager for it to end?
And then I realized something. The majority (or at least the vocal majority)of the fandom are Jane/Lisbon shippers, and Red John was the greatest impediment to them getting together. So it did not matter if RJ was never mentioned in the episodes, as long as he was out there, Jane and Lisbon would not get together---whether it was because Jane was scared of RJ hurting Lisbon or whether Jane was so focused on catching RJ that entering in a romantic relationship was the furthest thing from his mind. Either way, the Jisbon shippers had a problem with it.
So we can say that the fandom is/was primarily divided into two groups: those who watch for the relationships (especially Jisbon)  and those who watched for the Red John storyline.
I wonder if those fandoms can be divided among gender...with the majority of Jisbon fans being female and the majority of the RJ story fans being male. I don't mean to be sexist, since I'm female and was/am a huge fan of the RJ storyline (at least until 603 but that's a whole different topic).
Anyway, I would like to conduct an informal survey. Obviously, everyone on this forum is/was fan of the RJ storyline, even if you don't like the way it ended. Would you please press the green button if you are male and the red button if you are female?
Thank you!

Does anyone else ever miss The Mentalist while they're watching it? (Just happened to me again with S7 E1.)

It sure is a strange feeling. How can you miss something when it's right there?

And yet, I do.

Come to think of it...I miss the bustle and zing of this WIRJ Board as well.
And yet, here I am writing on it, so how can i miss it...?
Ever since the Red John episode in Season 6, I often feel discombobulated inside. I wonder if that feeling will soon be deemed as the RJ effect...a new disorder caused by intense disappointment at TV storyline debacles. We'll tell our insurance companies to send Heller the bill. ;-P
