THE THEORIES

I think that Red john has hypnotize Lisbon .He makes her  an accomplice with him and a spy for him .   Three people in the list have met Lisbon privately which they are :
1-
Gale Bertram
2- Bob Kirkland
3-Ray Haffner

and we know Red John is probably has an ability to hypnotize  . He can make people to be in his side easily .

I feel that Ray Haffner is Red John , he met Lisbon privately lots of times and he offered her to join him in his own new company
Moreover, He is a member in Visualize as it is revealed in episode 13 in season 5!

But this doesn't mean that Lisbon is bad person , because she has been hypnotized. Look at episode 18 in season 1 when a women has hypnotized Rigbsy . He was like an evil he could killed Jane but then Jane him to recover and back to his nature personality!

Sorry for my english:)

yesterday I thought it must be Stiles but now I beg on Haffner after rewatching the Episode where Rebecca killed Bosco and was poisoned by RJ. The man who came along in Police uniform fits Haffner...
After re watching Episode Litttle red book Haffner asks Cho if PJ is smarter than Cho and if he is smarter than him...Then he manipulates Cho by offering something he wants (to have his Job back-and asks for doing something for him (looking for PJs attempts to cheat on Haffner).
His past fits with beeing at the red barn at the right time. he is into visualize and tries to connect to Lisbon...)
I think he is smart enough to make People work for him.
And watching him and PJ sitting on the Sofa in front of Bertram makes them look like" fearful symmetry".
His Alias is similar to his real Name (Roy/Ray) and he fits also  to the description of Rosalind Harker.
The murdered happy Memory of PJ is easy to access- when he was devastated after the killing of his Family it might be a good therapeutical Access to evoke happy memories, so I think it´s easy to know  from a coworking-therapist for example.
If it´s Haffner it´s most easy for him (who´s subject was observing..) to Install a camera or get any Access to Patricks "Office".
Like the Video tape of Lorelai murdering the woman- there was a tiny camera in a clock...So it´s easy to know the names of the list without the mind intruding staff and so on.
Patridge is way to childish and not  masterminded enough  to make anyone of the man work for him (like Lennon. Please! Does anyone believe Lennon is working for him???)
And he doesn´t seem to have enough power to handle Lorelai.

First of all, I need to ventilate a bit. Is it just me who got really pissed off with the fact they left the caretaker woman in a police car with one random officer, knowing every single rj accomplice so far killed him-/herself? No, that's straight out f**king stupid and is either a bad move by the directors or Jane is hiding something about that video. My money on the first assumption.

However, with the list and this latest Heller interview we must assume this list of 7 contains the one true culprit. My guess would be Ray Haffner. Why?

Well for starters

1) He's got the fitting appereance as described by a few, especially Rosalind in regards to his haircut. I have not paid much attention to any rings on his fingers, but someone might be able to add to that.
2) He's the right age and flipped off Teresa in the conversation of Vizualise and him being the appropriate age for the timeline of the farm murders.
3) He's shaken hands with Jane.
4) He's in a position of power and money, the latter strengthened by the fact he offered Lisbon a job that'd increase her paycheck significantly. He does indeed try to get closer to Lisbon, however, I don't see this is a real clue, but it might be.
5) This is a pretty far-fetched theory, but remember Bertram reciting the 'tyger tyger' poem by William Blake to Lisbon and LaRoche I think it was? When asked where it came from he said he heard it from a friend, I'm pretty sure he's friends with Haffner. Far-fetched, but maybe ;)

However, there's a few things pointing against him, such as the fact he doesn't seem that manipulative nor psychic - his voice doesn't match it either, but yeah, could be altered.

Brett Partridge is also a seemingly acknowledgeable suspect, even if he's a very 'obvious' red herring. What is it with people saying he's young and can't fit the age description? Noone's ever defined his age, and in real life t he actor's born 1968 which would mean he'd be around 45 years old today. That could fit, no? Not gonna go into why he's a probable suspect, that's already been posted a lot on these boards.

Another red herring is Robert Kirkland. I don't think he's RJ simply because it'd be too obvious, he also entered the show too late (apart from the car scene) and I have a feeling he also wants red john, maybe for the same reasons as Jane does.

Finally, I think the Tyger Tyger poem as so often recited by Red John and others bares some kind of clue to the culprit. As far as I know the poem is a sister poem to another poem by Blake called The Lamb, where as the Tyger is a duality between beauty and animalistic tendencies in human beings. Could this be Vizualise talk?

Sorry about potential bad english, not my native language.

People, the writer of the show has stated that :
ONE OF THE SEVEN IS RED JOHN
.
End of that discussion.

Here is my opinion on it.

1) Kirkland
It won't be Kirkland. That is beyond too obvious and the show doesn't like obvious. I believe Red John attacked somebody he loved too and he is geared to kill Red John himself.

2) Bret Stiles
Not him. Besides being too old to pull it off, Lorelei said "It's a wonder why you DIDN'T become friends as soon as you shook hands". Bret and Jane are friends, which throws this theory out of the water.

3) Brett Patridge
Too young. Realistically, how could somebody this young pull of this level of work? Also too obvious.

4) Gale Bertram
This really could have been him. If you recall from a few seasons ago during the finale, when Jane tricked the mole by telling each suspect a different room, the killer went through Bertram's room first [so they thought it was him] but the killer had rope to go down to the floor below. This could have been played as Redjohn thought that Bertram and the other guy were told different numbers because someone flubbed up, so they figured to check both. However, somebody of Red John's intellect likely wouldn't fall for it.

5) Thomas McAllister [Sheriff]
Definitely not him, too random of a character and not nearly big enough in the series.

6) Reede Smith
Definitely not him, too random of a character and not nearly big enough in the series. He's also too new of a character.

7) Leaving Ray Haffner. He's in it enough, but not enough at the same time to fit Red John. He fits all profiles given. Jane and him don't get along and he's trying to drag Lisbon away and get information off of her. The most suitable suspect.

Patrick Jane is an anagram of Captain Jerk.
Captain was the first word spoken in the pilot episode, said by LISBON, however this is not relevant. Who is the biggest jerk and could be considered captain? RAY HAFFNER. Case closed. Shook hands with Jane? Check.  (Season 4 Episode 2) Ray also has experience from Visualise so may have powers ie. hypnosis mentioned and shown in the finale.

I admit I have been wrong all along.  I still don't have any concrete idea as to who it is.  I do however think that a key clue to finding out is determining how Red John knew which names Jane had picked and how he killed someone from his memory (a good memory that made him happy).  To me, it has to be someone that has hypnotized Jane at some point.  Red John has proven time and time again that he is a master hypnotist.  That being said, it must be someone that Jane has spent much time with..........most likely one on one time.

I am thinking Ray may be a good choice because he spent a fair amount of time with Jane alone.  He reasonably fits the description's given as well as age.  His name is Ray which doesn't deviate much from Roy.  Jane had said i a previous episode that people usually pick aliases that are very similar or have a connection to their own name.

Like I said......it is still a huge guessing game at this point.

This post contains spoilers for people who haven't seen the finale of season 5 so if you haven't stop reading here.

Alright, well in the finale we have finally learned the names of the 7 "real" Red John suspects.
The list is;
Brett Stiles
Gale Bertram
Brett Partidge
Ray Haffner
Robert Kirkland
Reede Smith
Thomas McAllister

It is quite obvious that Brett Stiles cannot be Red John, as we learned in the episode The Red Barn Brett Stiles is to old to be Red John.

Gale Bertram is also a very unlikely choice for Red John because he just isn't clever enough, he also isn't a very good "mind" reader as is demonstrated by his poker skills.

Brett Patridge is the first potential Red John suspect but for some reason he just doesn't seem to have the personality to be Red John, he doesn't really care about his appearance a lot, as is shown with his messy hair in the hotel. Furthermore he is also very humble towards Patrick Jane and even allows him to insult him as is seen in the pilot and since RJ did not immediately strike back at PJ for doing so it is again very unlikely that Patridge is RJ.

Ray Haffner is also a very good posibility for being RJ, as we learn in The Red Barn episode he is in fact a member of visualize and it is pretty likely that he was even at the Smiley barn at the same time as RJ was. He also clearly has feeling for Lisbon which explains why RJ has never made a move to hurt her, because Lisbon is easily Jane's weakness so it is very strange that he has left her alone. One thing however that sais that Ray Haffner is not RJ is that he admitted to "being unable to handle Jane", this is something that RJ would never do, unless Haffner wanted Jane's old team to come back so that the RJ vs PJ game would stay the same, so in my opinion Haffner is probably my nr1 suspect at this moment.

Then we have Robert Kirkland, our mysterious Homeland Security agent. For the entire season, the producers have tried us to believe that Kirkland is RJ. Firstly Homeland Security would have no reason to investigate the RJ case because it isn't a threat to national safety, unless ofcourse Homeland has come to suspect that RJ is actually a part of visualize and they want to get rid of visualize. I mean a big powerful cult where people are being brainwashed could be seen as a threat. So in my opinion Kirkland is trying to catch RJ himself and he probably has even tried doing so by going undercover, this is probably why he asked Lennon if he had recognized him because he clearly recognized Lennon. He also knew that Lennon didn't know anything about RJ because he didn't ask Lennon a single question about him.

Then we have Reede Smith, a very very unlikely person to end up on the list, since we can assume that we saw RJ himself in the season 2 finale it is clear that Smith is too fat to be RJ, unless he suddenly gained a lot of weight, which could actually be the reason why RJ didn't kill for such a long time. So eventhough it is still very unlikely that he will end up being RJ he is still someone that we should keep an eye out for.

And then we have our last suspect Thomas McAllister. I must be honest that I don't remember him at all, so I can't really make a point about him being RJ at all. But since he did appear in the beginning of the show and since he questioned Patrick a little bit while they first met he is a likely candidate to be RJ.

So my top 3 at the moment is;

Ray Haffner
Thomas McAllister
Robert Kirkland
