Why did Lorelei give Patrick Jane some time to get his list before she read the names?  Patrick already knows the names.  Why would he have to take some time to get the list out to compare?.  This was set up for Lisbon.  Jane may have been behind the video.  Who knows at this point but there is something suspicious about that and the fact that Jane immediately destroyed the cd.  I think that Lisbon is involved with Ray Haffner.  I think Patrick may have created the video, thus the absence of the real Red John's voice, in an attempt to see Lisbons reaction when certain names were mentioned such as Ray Haffners.

Remember, Red John cant tolerate cheap imitations of his work.  This video may be a way to lure Red John out because his ego wont allow him to handle someone else imitating him.  My most logical candidate based on this analysis would be that Red John is Ray Haffner.  I also combine this with the suspicion of him being on the Visualize farm during the 90's and his sketchy background.

I just rewatched s5e13 The red barn, which I think is one the most important episodes on the show so far. In this episode we find out that Red John is/was a Visualize member and in 1988 he was in the Ellison farm. The two dead people in the basement are probably his first kills. He also painted the smily face on the wall.
Now this is very important because in the end of the episode Patrick tells Lisbon that he suspect around 408 people but the whole Visualize and farm thing will exclude "a bunch more". I think this is the best lead we got and the closest we can get the R.J for now and surely Jane knows this. So I think everyone on that list must have something to do with Stiles and his cult.
The only guy we know that is a Visualize member and most likely was in the very same Ellison farm in '88 is Haffner.
Now I really dislike the idea of him being our lovely Red John but we gotta consider everyone on that list, and the Red Barn episode is a very good lead.

Haffner himself looks really unsure around Jane. The fist episode that he plays - s4.ep2 he asks Cho who's smarter - he or Jane. Why would he ask this? We see in the season finale R.J tells Patrick via the CD - You think you are clever? I'll show you clever. Obviously theres something going on with those two. : )
Now my favorite clue about Haffner is his talk to with Lisbon. He says that he was troubled kid back in the days and Visualize help him. So we know he was bad teenager around 17. At 21 he was in the Ellison farm. This brings the question how come theres so many trophies in his office? When did he graduated high school and college? How come he achieved so much if at 21-22 he was working for Stiles and had no promising future if any future at all. There must be something that he did to earn Stiles or someone else trust, to build connections and eventually make it to CBI.
Another think for Haffner, bit of a long shot tho - but I think I noticed a football/sport award from college in his office. Do you remember when Jane was kidnapped by those kids and R.J saved him? At the end he said "Roll Tide" - a reference to Alabama crimson tide sport team.

After all I like the idea of Partridge being R.J the most. We all know about the Blakes painting "brace of partridge" etc. I love the idea of Brett Stiles being possibly father, uncle etc of R.J and thats why he helping him. But theres a reason for everyone being on that list and I think in next season they will make the Red John - Visualize connection more clear for us. But for me theres no doubt that Stiles knows who RJ is but he won't tell either because the cares and protect R.J or because hes afraid of him. Hes afraid of Visualize, that is a religions organization, being linked with the most brutal and famous serial killer in CA.

I almost forgot.  I HATE HAFFNER!

Ray Haffner is Red John.  His background is sketchy.  He looks shady.  Did you see him pull out his notepad when he was interviewing a witness at the gym?  He wasnt even taking notes.  He is a fake investigator.  I am guessing he looks the part with his pressed suits and nice dress shoes but all his credentials are most likely fake.  He spent his late teen and early twenty years being brainwashed by Vizualize, possibly living on a hippy commune farm and starting to act on his lust for violence in murder.  He wasnt playing football or getting an education.  He is a fake law enforcement agent, but he is a real killer.

Acording to Heller Red John is one of 7 people on that list.

1.Bret Stiles
Never killed a person (at least not proved), would rather have someone else do it.
Red John enjoys to kill, Bret Stiles not (or he probably would have killed his victims himself).

2.Gale Bertram
Was already suspected of being an accomplice of RJ.So it would be boring from a narrative view to have him as RJ.

3.Ray Haffner
Member of Visualize. Fits the profile and is already an established character on the show.

4.Reede Smith
Appears in Season 5. You don't know a lot about him, so why is he on the list?

5.Robert Kirkland
Appears out of nowhere in Season 5. More of a distraction, but he's definitly "evil".

6.Sheriff Thomas McAllister
Doesn't seem to have the intelligence and looks like a random choice to me. But he will return in Season 6.

7.Brett Partridge
Most theories say it's him, but I've got a feeling that Heller wouldn't make it that easy.

My top three are: Ray Haffner, Brett Patridge and Sheriff Thomas McAllister.

Did anybody else noticed that Lorelai stressed very much the name of raymond haffner when she was reading the list of seven (more than the other six ones)? 

I really hope that Haffner is NOT Red John! 

I think Ray Haffner makes the most sense. He has all the things going for him that Gale Bertram does (access to CBI, moving in a similar orbit to Jane, etc) plus he is a member of Visualize. Visualize is important because I think Stiles is actually a bigger problem than Red John.

I have a theory that Red John is a sub villain to Stiles. Stiles has a broader, national scope. He spoke like he had a friendly or paternal relationship to Red John back in season, what 2 or 3? Visualize indoctrination would give Red John the skills we know he has in manipulation, and frankly--cult building. Visualize could help him control his impulses. If this series continues past the killing or capture of Red John, I think Visualize will spit out another demon, or possibly several, until Stiles himself is neutralized.  

So, I think Haffner is Red John. He has Visualize training, CBI training, and is a good looking, successful man building power and influence.
