I think that Patrick could be Red John. At least that's what writers want us to think.

I really have just one thing to add to all existing Patrick=Red theories.

As many have pointed out one possibility is that Jane suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID). There are several dissociative disorders which are closely related to one another and if you have one there is great risk of having another. Patrick has already had an episode of dissociative amnesia/fugue in one episode so we know that he has a strong tendency to dissociate.

He really killed the real red john in 'strawberries and cream 2',  and has taken over the red john persona ever since.  So far the only ones he has killed is the serial killer Panzer and the murdering Todd Johnson, and I suspect he will use the red john moniker for a lot of mischief.  I think he is halucination some things like the 'tyger tyger' mumbled by Todd Johnson on his death bed, c'mon that guy wasn't saying anything...and possible he doesn't know himself that he is now the new red john.  The taped recording strapped to Wainright is the voice of Patrick Jane mimicing the voice of the real red john as he heard it in the 'tyger tyger burning bright' incident.

Yes he's smart and has briliant ideas but there is no way he's red john. He heard Red John in that limousine from a phone call.

First, Red John is male and when he talked to Patrick , Teresa Lisbon and her team were with the FBI guys so... ;)

A quick response to Darcy and all the other Patrick Jane accusers. I was thinking...has anyone thought of maybe a Fight Club-esque scenario?

Maybe part of the explicit instructions to RJ's followers is to treat Jane as Jane and not acknowledge the split personality. JUST A THOUGHT.

Patrick is a master mind in manipulating. He has a strange side to him that sets off red flags in me. He could be using past subjects convicted as killers by hypnotizing them  to throw people off the trail of suspecting him. he probably randomly chooses people to hypnotize and manipulate to create a murder  mystery that surprised to note he solves. and Why?  he wants to take everyone's attention off of him by joining the CBI team so that no one will see his true identity. He is smart and clever and one could easily over look him as RJ.

theory # 2 It could be that the wife of the person Jane shot was red john . She was purposely baited by Jane when he added a key to the VIC's key chain. She could have been trying to find out if her husband was secretly hiding evidence to reveal her so she took the bait from Jane trying to see what the key would unlock so she could destroy the clues or evidence that points to her.

I really think Red John is Patrick Jane, maybe with a personality disorder that he can't remember what he did with his family and all the victims,also the Red John smiley face looks like him at least thats what I think, because he is a joker and very funny, seems to be amused all the time, or maybe someone related to him very close to him, but if not; for me its too obvious is someone from the inside with high rank, a cop or someone from the team. Some times Grace looks very suspicious too, her computer always have received the messages, weird!, and she seems to be depressed, mad or bipolar must of the time, Im sure something is not right with her, but anyways everyone in the team has some kind of secret, Thats my theory!
