THE THEORIES

I just want to bring you in the mindset of William Blake, by quoting some poems of his artwork. Hope this will give us some clues to the Red John story.

The Tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction.

You cannot have liberty in this world withoug what you call moral virtue, and you cannot have moral virtue without the slavery of that half of the human race who hate what you call moral virtue.

Both read the Bible day an night, but thou read black where I read white.

Do what you will, this world's fiction and is made up of contradiction.

I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create.

Without contraries is no progression. Attraction and repulsion, reason and energy, love and hate, are necessary to human existence.

Opposition is true friendship.

Active Evil is better than passive Good.

cheers, hope that brings some new thoughts!

The series name is "the mentalist". From the wiki, here's what the definition of "Mentalism" is Mentalism is a performing art in which its practitioners, known as mentalists, appear to demonstrate highly developed mental or intuitive abilities. Performances may appear to include telepathyclairvoyancedivinationprecognitionpsychokinesismediumshipmind control, memory feats and rapid mathematics. Hypnosis may also be used as a stage tool. Mentalists are sometimes referred to as psychic entertainers.

We all know Jane was an entertainer before. Also we have seen this a number of times ,that he has hypnotized a few people.

So, I propose, that Jane, who always says that there is nothing like clairvoyance or psychic powers, actually uses hypnosis to make people kill other people.  He may not be Red John, but he could be the one who "Makes" RJ.. .and post hypnosis, the person doesn't remember anything, anyway!

So there could be more than 1 person doing it...

I may have missed it but I don't think I saw a theory including this:

RJ tells Patrick that he knows about that suspect list. Then, one of the suspects gets killed. Now, if that list is bogus, doesn't Patrick realize that he put the remaining suspects in danger? If it is not bogus and the list valid, this still means he put 6 of 7 in danger (one being RJ).

Since we know that Patrick wanted his list to be stolen, I believe he made a list of RJ accomplices that he has no doubt. Either he'll get information out of them by putting some pressure on and waiting for a mistake, or RJ will kill them to prevent this which will cause RJ lose power. In both scenarios Patrick wins. Great plan.

But I have no idea how did he figure out these names. Especially Reede Smith and McAllister are pretty hard to be sure about since they're not that much involved.

Every single opinion is appreciated, please share your thoughts.

This is just a short theory on why Pj is NOT Rj.

As we see at the end of episode 3 this season (when Grace and Rigsby get married), Pj cries when he sees this. It's obvious that Rj is a sociopath, this is what I think a message from Heller saying that Pj is NOT Rj.
