THE THEORIES

In response to the comment below:
I did not see lorelai, however Gale bertram reffered to Patrick as "The boy wonder"
How could he possibly know Jane's old stage name? Unless it's common knowledge or written in his case file but I don't see why it would be relevant...
Food for thought..

I know its Gale Bertram. Lorelei said the thingy with the hand shaking, right?
so she had to be there watching "Red John" and Jane shaking hands, RIGHT?
So, there is a little video where Bertram and Jane are shaking hands
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66iBKnc4wlA
Look closely at Minute 1:29 top of the right corner who is standing there.
What do you think? I'm pretty sure its Lorelei. Let me know what you think about that. :)

In the final episode in season 4 Red John meets Jane in a car. He tells Jane in their conversation that he has a friend in the FBI. Now in Season 5 Episode 5 we are taken back to when Jane was hired by the CBI as a consultant after being punched by a CBI agent and feeling sorry for Jane, the CBI lets Jane follow Teresa around and Jane ends up helping her and getting hired. At the end of the episode a FBI agent Alexa Schultz calls Gale and tells him that she would like updates on the Red John case. She also talks about Jane, and offers to be friends with the CBI in trade of updates of the Red John case. At the end she tells Gale that while Jane was off the radar he was at a insane asylum. When Alexa Schultz said that it's good to have a friend in the FBI and Gale agreed I think Gale was thinking that Alexa Schultz could help him get information when needed. And the meeting that Jane and Red John had in the car at the last episode in season 4 when Red John said that he had a a good friend in the FBI, I think he ment that Alexa Schultz was his friend in the FBI. In conclusion I think Gale Bertram is Red John.

In addition to Bertram's tea-drinking, Wm. Blake poetery-quotes, age and general physique consistent with what we know about RJ, there are more subtle clues that suggest Gale Bertram is RJ:

In the episode where Jane meets Gale Bertram and shakes his hand, (Season 3, ep 1) Jane (wrongly) suspects Bertram could be the killer in that episode.  Mid-episode Jane states (regarding  Bertram)   "I got a weird vibe the first moment I met him."  In Season 5, Lorelei states that she is surprised that Jane did not know RJ when Jane met him and shook his hand. Jane did sense a "weird vibe" upon meeting Bertram to suspect he could be a killer.

In Strawberries and Cream (Pt. 1), after Gupta is killed, Bertram tells Lisbon there is no need to pursue the purpose of the money transfer "list" - the list that would ultimately inform the team that
RJ was behind Gupta's crime and was seeking Hightower. When Bertram is informed about the details of Gupta's scheme he calls it "elegant." RJ would consider his criminal plots to be elegant.

in "Strawberries and Cream (Pt. 2) the script stresses that all but one person on the list as possible RJ accomplices  are innocent. Bertram was on the list - but we know O'Laughlin was RJ's accomplice. It seems like purposeful misdirection by the scriptwriter to state that  the others are innocent - more than one on the list could be RJ and/or his accomplices.

RJ would want to work closely with Jane to observe him - RJ obviously considers himself to be better than Jane - what better role for RJ than as Jane's superior?

"Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright..."
http://www.bartleby.com/101/489.html

We all know this is the William Blake poem quoted by Red John to Jane.

It has also already been mentioned that the poem quoted by Bertram in "Red Queen" is a Blake poem called The Cradle Song.

To add to this connection, both poems were originally published by Blake in 1794 in the same collection, entitled Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience.

The verse from The Cradle right before "when thy little heart doth wake..." (quoted by Bertram) is: "O the cunning wiles that creep / In thy little heart asleep!".  RJ/Bertram knows exactly who the real mole is (O'Laughlin), so the line implies that he is amused by the wiles of Jane in helping Hightower escape.

Lastly, this might be silly, but if you go to the link above at bartleby.com for the text of The Tiger, and then hit next, [to go to Blake's next poem in their archive], The Cradle is the very next poem...

It has to be...

When Jane shot "Redjohn(rj)", he was reading a newspaper. The same newspaper was read by Bertram the same day. Coincidence?

He matches RJ'S description perfectly.

He's in a high position, and we don't know anything about his past.
