THE THEORIES

I remember that timonthy Carter wasn't the real name of that man.
I think Brett Patridge is red john, but the name is an alias, an he's real name is Ellis Mars,
Red john is very to smart, and they like to make some really twist in the story, may be we are thinking to lo logical
I also think that the guy that plays Ellis Mars is involved, because he appears in a Red John episode, and why Todd Johnson didn't kill him. He could easy kill him and blame him for the mulder, but he didn't...why?

I am nearly 100% confident I know Brett Partridge is Red John. A while ago I was on a behind the scenes tour at universal studios where most of The Mentalist is filmed. I was lucky enough to meet some of the cast, Jack Plotnick (Brett Partridge). They mentioned that they were doing some filming for season four. Now, Brett Partridge does not appear as himself in season four, but Red John is seen holding the tea cup. The only logical conclusion is that Brett Partridge is Red John:

I am going to begin by mentioning that I have watched every single episode of the mentalist to date. I have also been doing quite a fair bit of research to try and determine who RED JOHN is. And I must say sadly I am quite sure I know the answer with concrete evidence actually. Unless Bruno Heller decides to change his mind I have determied the serial Killer by a mistake that they have made.

If you look at the profile of the character Brett Patridge on imdb : <<http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0257474/>> you can see that he has only plated in 2 episodes. Looking back we have only ever seen Brett Partridge in ONE episode which was the pilot episode (episode 1).

According to the source, he also appeared in the episode ''Red Sky in the Morning'' which was the season finale of season 2. If you recall this was the episode when RED JOHN appeared with a mask and saved Patrick Jane from the hoaks killers. We had never seen Brett Patridge in that episode but according to the source he was there. This can only mean ONE THING. Brett Patridge actulally is Red John and he was the one under the mask.

This being said I am quite disappointed that I have been able to figure out the identity of Red John so easily not to mention that it in fact becomes quite boring because he isn't a main character as he barely appeared in the episodes.

Also let's mention that he wasn't on Larouche's list of suspects and as far as I know he and Jane never shook hands.

What do you guys think? I am pretty sure and disappointed in this finding.

While I'm naming Partridge as the ORIGINAL Red John, the truth is actually twofold...

Brett Partridge USED TO BE Red John. Bruno Heller has originally planned to have him as "just this simple man", to quote him, and has given too many clues to his identity. It was spoiled too early, and now he's had to change it.

Brett was John. Who is John now? Nobody. Bruce Heller doesn't know yet. Who is he going to be? We'll see at the end of the series and not before.

Bruno Heller still hasn't decided who Red John is going to be.

After everyone figured out his originally planned identity in Season 2 (some already in Season 1, after his character has been prominently placed next to Jane in the early promo posters), he's been egged and has switched strategies. Instead of being too self-congratulatory with giving out actual clues (which is why the original identity was spoiled so early), he's been backtracking ever since, planting tons of new fake "clues" everywhere he can, in hope of making every viewer suspect every character in the series.

It's working for about 95% of the viewers, Bruno's happy, and he'll be milking the red cow until cancellation is imminent. Then, with the hundreds of false clues that have been planted, he'll be able to pick literally anyone he wants, even at random (though most likely after checking the Mentalist wikia for current fan favorites), say "there, s/he's been Red John all along!" and point to whichever "clue" he wants as "proof".

Decent plan, which will probably work, and whoever he picks up for Red John will hopefully be satisfying. The show is still strong, nothing about it has been destroyed so far (unlike, say, "Dexter", blown up by the atrocity known as "Season 7"), and it will probably stay decent with Bruno Heller helming it (again, with "Dexter", it was the change of runners in Season 6 that destroyed the series). It's just a bit of a shame that he's so concerned with that trap he found himself in. Red John has grown into a monster, the whole series is about him, and without him/her, the series will fizzle out in 5 episodes - which Bruno Heller knows, and which is why he won't pick the "revelation" until the cancellation.

Frankly, I'd hope he'd return to the original identity, but that's past - he's accidentally made the character from what used to be his original roots (just a clever serial killer, operating alone or with a tiny group of accomplices) into this giant mythical Satan-like being with 5000 devoted johnologists standing by, and by now he probably feels that he'll need someone much bigger to fill those shoes. (Perhaps that's why a certain "bloke" from Yorkshire has been returning so often, though hopefully not.)

Unless he brings back the original RJ from Season 1/2 and retcons him into someone bigger. But that would be too obvious.

Let's break down the clues...

Has FBI connections= Brett Partridge
Has access to crime Scenes= Brett Partridge
Has access to the CBI Computers= Brett Partridge
Hates Jane= Brett Partridge
Has a voice similar to Red John= Brett Partridge
Is just under 6ft, with straight hair= Brett Partridge
Not sure of his age, but he must be in late 30's or early 40's...important because RJ started killing in late 90's.

William Black also refers to a partridge in his poems

He works the crime scene so if his DNA were to be found he would be overlooked as Red John

Jane considers him a fool and thus not cleaver enough to be Red John

Red John stated that he "hates it when people copy his work" and the only episodes we see Brett in are copy cat killings.

In Epi one he walked in and said "Red John Enters Here" (as he entered) and then with his hand he traced the smiley face ("by what immortal hand or eye can frame THY fearful symmetry"..."Did he smile his work to see")

The scenes with Brett have been edgy on purpose..he has been played as an arrogant, smug worm that Patrick does not like...so we would remember him for a reason.

Patrick has him listed in his book as someone he shook hands with

He appeared in season one and there was no gaurantee that this should would get picked up so it is likely that the "glimpse" of Red John came in season one...

The only thing that gets me is why HE IS MAR appeared on that wall..

When you look at it closely it dos not say He is Mar...

It says Hell IS Mar...

When you unscramble that it spells very clearly...lle (not H.E) IS Mar

When you unscramble that you get two words...

Ellis Mar

I defiantly say it is Brett; just think about it for a moment. He is about the only guy that appeared in this show where Patrick Jane humiliates (yes I know Jane humiliates everyone, but this guy was the only one who gets bullied by Jane who works in the police). Also, he is about the only one that everyone agreed is stupid, Jane makes fun of everyone, but Teresa, Wayne and Kimball all looked at each other in a smirking kind of way (they show us he is an idiot without saying). And in any criminal cases the killer has to have a motive and what better motive than revenge on everyone because they made fun of him (don't tell me you don't know that about Brett, because with that kind of personality everyone will make fun of you). In addition he was probably the only guy Patrick hated and showed his hater for. Also, he is just too stupid! I can't imagine a guy like him being a head of analyzing methods of killing with being this of a fool, which only suggests that he is smarter than he looks -don't forget don't judge a book by its cover. Lastly, he fits in all the clues in the list. One final word, being a fool makes anyone dismiss him from killing anyone without even looking deep into it, and remember Jane didn't even try to analyze him, he just made of him and went. And you never know :p
