THE THEORIES

And so...
After the episode Red Sails In The Sunset we know that Patrick has shaken hands with Red John and that it is a person who he knows and  we viewers have almost certainly seen.

What do we know about Red John? It 'a man of medium physique and cultured because he knows classical music, the ancient Latin language (the fake name "agent Nemo" is Latin, Nemo = none) and the literature of Blake. Further he knows how to be always one step ahead of Patrick Jane because, in addition to being very smart, is definitely in contact with powerful people. Jane to simulate an incident should almost breaking his neck and risking his life on more than one occasion to approach him. Red John is apparently  a "military strategist" who, as at the end of the third and fourth season, knows how to "direct the orchestra" and stay quiet and far from the battlefield, sending the first time Timoty Carter, the second Wainwright. People that  can be this character are: Minelli, Bertram, billionaires Tommy Volker and Walter Mashburn, Brett Stiles and Bob Kirkland

I BELIEVE THAT BRETT STILES IS RED JOHN
for these reasons:

1) Red John is a manipulator just like Jane, probably even more skilled, able to persuade and touch points with the unconscious ease. The only person we've seen do such things is Brett Stiles

2) Red John at the end of the second series recites a poem by Blake (The Tiger). Poetry is always supplemented by a second poem called The Lamb by Blake. Both recite verses in Old English as "who made thee" (who created you?). The answer is clearly God who creates both the lamb and the tiger, both good and evil. I believe that Red John feels a god, because he is always able to win against the most cunning of the series, Patrick Jane. He has surely mania of omnipotence. The God of poetry is Red John. Red John indeed through violence (murder of sister of Lorelei and killing the family of Jane) creates two new people, living for him, just as the Tiger and the Lamb. Who are the Tiger and who the Lamb? Patrick Jane is clearly the tiger because "it's wild" and goes against his master, would kill him if he could, instead Lorelei is the lamb, because worships Red John, is faithful and certainly loved him. Therefore, in the perverse world of Red John there are two checkers Patrick and Lorelei (RJ clearly leaves in life both for interest, otherwise he would have killed they as many others) and he plays with them like be a god. Any God must have his faithful . Nobody else except Brett Stiles who heads a company of religion.

3) Red John is clearly inspired by the figure of Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes, criminal capable of killing for simple pleasure or commission, always full of alibi, halfway around the world while you committed the crime. The Visualize with all his disciples, could easily carry out the orders of Brett Stiles while he is in Europe or in Asia for example.
4) Brett Stiles very easily get out Lorelei of a maximum security prison. Patrick alone there would never be successful. If Red John had wanted Lorelei remain in prison he would not let slip so easily, unless Brett Stiles is Red John.

5) During the series the pathos of the viewer coincides with the instinct of Jane becoming nonsense and bringing Patrick to do stupid things. At the end of the third series Hightower is accused of being the infiltrated of Red John. Thing that then will be false because the infiltrate is Craig Craig O'Laughlin. Jane creates all her complicated plan in hotel Pacific Palms but understands by pure luck, thanks to the similarity of the rope of Bertram, that the true infiltration of Red John. Why would Red John would have to kill Hightower? It also the viewer understands that. Jane behaves like a fool, he was always two steps behind Red John. Brett Stiles was rarely seen throughout the series, but only a distant person, relaxed, well-informed may have orchestrated it all.

6) In the end I think that Red John / Brett Stiles is someone who is able to blackmail powerful people as Volker, able to move quickly within the police people like Craig O'Laughlin or Bob Kirkland, to return the favor and take advantage of it.

7) Finally, outside of the internal logic of the series,  an actor like Malcolm McDowell (Brett Stiles), who has won more awards than Simon Baker (Patrick Jane) can not have a secondary role and appear occasionally. Should be an important figure in the series, or even the most important, Red John.

I think that is Brett Stiles.
Because
Lorelei described RJ as powerful and manipulative and Stiles is powerful and manipulative.

I believe they've all shaken hands with Jane. Stiles is the most obvious, why was he so hesitant to help Jane free lorelei hmmmm.

I'm back and forth on this one. From everything I've seen the arrows are pointing to Bret Stiles. Lorelei said she was surprised they weren't best friends since they shook hands. I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) that they shook hands. She says they are just alike, manipulative etc... and on the description of the first episode Stiles in it says "Patrick finds a new adversary in a charismatic but manipulative cult
leader while the CBI team investigates the death of the CEO of a media
conglomerate."

Two traits strongly attributed to Jane and being a cult leader takes a level of charisma and manipulation that would be required to establish this power base he has which seems to reach to high levels of law enforcement.

It would also explain why he was hesitant about Jane breaking Lorelei out of prison. One, he might turn her but Stiles might view that as just another challenge in this game between them. Second and more importantly, if Jane was captured and arrested it would put a huge stall or complete stop to Red John's game.

Stiles is the only character I've seen that has shown the intelligence and other various qualities and characteristics required to be Red John, but that is where I become hesitant. At this point it seems a little to obvious and I have a feeling the writers want to shock us with who he is but Bret Stiles wouldn't shock or surprise me at this point.

"THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS"

I won't give you the answer but, if you listen very closely you will hear BT give PJ some info on RJ at the end of a episode where he uses the words "friend". He uses the word twice in different context.....or was it different context? RJ never says or does any thing by chance ;)

I do agree with the cult theory of Brett Styles, but don't think its him. He definately has a big part of was is to be unveild. We see he is gonna be in next weeks episode his third appearance why else would have he been on so many times if he didn't turn out to play a key role in the red john saga. I also think Van Pelt has something to do with it whether she actually knows it or not. Last season her and styles have a moment where they connect while hes in the cell. Also a few seasons back styles tell jane he knows more about red john then he will ever know

Red John has cult following him, like Bret Stiles and his accompliances. Brett Partridge is one of them, like Craig O'Lauglin was. It's no one from his team, because that would be just too weird for mainstream tv show and Kristina Frye has now some mental problems and that disqualifies her. Also  I don't believe in RJ=PJ theory, just because that would be too big twist.
