Each chapter focuses on a suspect. The first was Partdige, in the third episode the Sherif and the next will be Kirkland and Smith. So, I guess, Bruno Heller will leave the better suspects for the last chapters. Then RJ should be:

Bret Stiles, Ray Haffner or Gale Bertram.

I think if the 7 suspect list is correct, then it can be narrowed down to 3 people.
Red John shouldn't be:
Sheriff McAllister because he saved Jane the last episode by climbing the ladder onto the roof (not acrophobic, maybe),
Reed Smith is too large according to the way Rosalind Harker describes RJ,
Bob Kirkland is seen in the preview of the next episode (Red Listed) as torturing Jane for the real list of RJ suspects. RJ already knows the list of Jane's suspects, and
Brett Partridge is dead.

Obviously all of my reasoning could be wrong and it is just RJ's way of throwing us off his trail...
for example Brett Partridge could be alive and be the one that tazered Lisbon, who knows.
Did anyone catch Sophie Miller's (Jane's psychologist) patient named something 'Washburn'. Remember Walter Mashburn? silly coincidences like that are made to confuse and annoy us, haha.

I strongly think it is Bret Stiles, but I definitely think that Red John is someone who has strong feelings for Lisbon (making his smiley on her face). Someone like Ray, who stopped by her hospital bed. I haven't watched the older seasons but I also think that Bertram and Stiles liked Lisbon, too. The other 4 suspects don't/didn't have any relationship with her...

Red John is JANE. In episode 4 season 4 special agent Luther White, White gives Jane the analysis of a sociopath (Jane). Then in last nights episode we learned Jane was afraid of heights . Red John is Jane. Take it to the bank!

It seems that there are many people to know the face of Red John. It makes me always uncomfortable about him being only one person. Even one of them betrays him, PJ will know the real name of RJ. Every disciple know RJ different than the other disciples? I don't like the idea of being RJ more than one people but there could be one person who unites and controls them. But he does not have to be the one who killed PJ's family. Timothy Carter was the one who murdered them but at the end there is only one person they answer. Could be Brett Stiles.

I know this may be strange to some but Red John is seven letters and there are seven suspects. Could it be possible that each suspect has his own red john trait and that there could be a kingpin red john such as brett?
By this I mean that Red John could be seven different people and one of those seven could ultimately control the rest. Those seven could also have their own disciples. To me it seems plausible because RJ seems to know every single fact, and seems unpenetratable which is where having seven people with different skill sets could come into play? Let me know what you think.

Who set up Hightower?

We know that agent O'Loughlin followed Red John's orders to kill Timothy Carter, and that Red John elaborately arranged the plot to frame Agent Hightower for it. 

At the end of the episode entitled Red All Over, Bret Stiles visits Hightower's office asking her to reprimand Jane for his behavior. Both she and Jane brush him off. Stiles leaves in a huff (we never see him lose his cool in any other episode) after issuing a subtle threat. Does Bret Stiles issue empty threats?

We know Red John doesn't.

Hightower is returning to the series in episode 6.4, "Red Listed." All will be revealed....

(Well, maybe not everything during that episode, but soon)
