Taking visualize seriously.

This is not a RJ theory, just something
that might be fun to think about.

There is
one thing any observant viewer must have noticed:

When it comes to "The Mentalist" things are seldom
clearly one way or the other. When things are clear they often turn
out to be the opposite of what they were presented.

One of the great mysteries
of the show is certainly visualize. The way it is protrayed there are strong parallels to
Scientology. I would guess most people consider Scientology
both scary and ridiculous at the same time, especially after the
famous South Park episode explaining their ludicrous belief system.


Everything we see and hear about visualize draws a clear picture. Visualize seems like a wacky organization that is all about money and
power. They match allmost all of common cliches of a cult. Pompous
speeches by charismatic but fake leader, pseudo scientific gimmicks,
cult specific rhetoric "brother XYZ", internal power
struggels and so forth.

Now what is being accomplished by portraying visualize in this very definite way?

The message becomes irrelevant!

By making the case described above our mind is receiving the clear message: Don't bother paying attention to their message, it is irrelevant, it is just psycho blabber.

 Just for the fun of it let's do the opposite.

The first thing we learn about their message is Bret Stiles speech from S02E20:

"The eye is not just the window to the soul.
It is the key to unlocking your greatness.
It is the key, because when you see it, you will be it.
One more time.
The eye is not just the window to the soul.
It is the key to unlocking..."

Notice that the shows intro has changed from the beginning of season 2. The first thing we see after the 3 colored lines is Patrick Janes eye.

The second time we meet Stiles and Visualize is in S03E03:

"You see, if the mind is free...
...there's nothing that you can't achieve,
It's a spaceship with the power
to travel across all six dimensions...
because then the mind has no limits."

This seems pretty random at first sight, but there is well known theology professor in th UK by the name of Ninan Smart. He was featured as consultant in a BBC documentary about World Religions in the 70's. Other than that he is best know for defining a religion by a six dimensional scheme:

1.Doctrinal
2.Mythological
3.Ethical
4.Ritual
5.Experiential
6.Institutional



He introduces the six dimension in 1968 in the publication "Secular Education and the Logic of Religion". He added a 7th dimesion (Material) in 1989 "The Worlds Religions". There is even a little inside joke in the conversation between Jane and Stiles:

PJ: "Why offer only six dimensions?
Is it to hold off a couple of dimensions to sell later?

Stiles:"No. I think six is quite enough."

Later on in the same episode Patrick is reading "Visualize Life" and we get a quick peak at the text. Unfortunately some words are not readable, but it still paints an interesting picture:

"Truth and nothing but the Truth

You have eschewed this base level and I, again, congratulate you on ____ ___
for most lost souls out there even this basic step will never happen. You ___ ___
wayfarer yourself. You will travel many roads you have trod upon, but now ___
these very familiar pathways with keener eyes. DO NOT BE AFRAID. ______
the veil away can be startling, confusing,  and even a bit anoying, but if you ___
the course, I promise you will ultimately be rewarded in ways you can not even conceive of right now.

Like I said,  this journey will not be for the faint of heart. To be pure of mind (and) focused of action, takes unyielding vigilance. Thruthfull to a fault with yourself and your visualize bretheren is one of the best ways to keep integrity with yourself. Through your daily ventilations, you will free youself from negative energy and aspects that ____
licking their chops at the prospect of clouding your judgment and weakening your
resolve. You must endeavor never to hold back any thing, because the very act
immediately leads to your holding back of your own potential.

In honour of the art and creativeness which has gripped us all thus far, let´s be outrageously optimistic, or let´s not. We can choose to believe one of two things;
1. That the people who put this show together respect the beauty of having the opportunity to weave the final threads of a glourious golden tapestry...or
2. The Red John reveal/death was the end.
Personally, i like to believe that it will all be brought to a splendid crescendo and we will be left applauding on our feet.
Obviously if the team behind the show didn´t have a plan, then these 2 month could provide very useful. Maybe even using this very site to complete the pieces of the currenly broken glass mosaic.

Who could know?...out of admiration for the people that make these discussion so interesting in the first place and for creating the show, i would have to side selfishly with the golden tapestry.

I few things on my mind about the story line which i was keen to here other peoples opinions on were;
What if the eye´s on the Red John signature are not really eyes, but eyebrows?
Detail is so critical, but then a vertical line becomes a horizontal one?
What if Jane knew that it would be the only people without the tattoo?
When i heard that Red John is like Waldo, i thought, ok so he must be on every page but hard to see, possibly with many distractions going on in front. So naturally CBI RON springs to mind, if they made all the clues work, wouldn´t he be the best reveal?
If Lisbon is bugged from early on then does the way Jane talk to her change, does he pick his words more carefully? Is it like he is speaking to someone else at the same time?
People acting on behalf of RJ seem incredibly convinced, or hypnotised? Out of charater perhaps?

Just a few ideas :)
