Who is Red John?

Theories of Mch (31)

Since nowadays we're only using posts to express our disappointment on how the RJ storyline was handled and (in some rare cases) to hate / rage against others frequenting on the site. I got a proposal:

How about each one posts his version of how RJ could have been revealed?

Let's also have a small guideline as for it not to spin too much out of control:

- Start off after the season 5 finale.

- Do not focus on WHO RJ would've been, only the means of how the story should've unfolded in your opinion. I think picking a specific tends to throw other people off from reading one's theory constructively (if the pick was not their favorite).

- As an exception to the above rule, you can refer to RJ's gender if it serves your story's unfolding. (As some people lean towards him being a female).

- Please avoid wall-texting, use paragraphs, as I would love to read anyone's theory, no matter its length, as long as it's easy on the eyes.

I'll be very happy if people participated. I'm eager to read your stories. I'll be posting mine as well in due time.

I'm a huge fan of the show but I do believe it needs to be cancelled, whether they do something unexpected before it ends or not.

The past episodes have been awful on their own, a mish mash of Jane's old tricks and faces, with no inherent mystery or interesting plot.

Even if they lead to a big reveal (doubtful) there's just no excuse for their quality. One can't go: Hey see this guy? He was RJ/ Santa Claus Keyser Soze all along and call that a good twist.

Let's take an example: Let's assume that this Marcus Pike is the real real real Red John (even typing it at this point looks ridiculous). Let's say that on the season finale he is revealed. Hell, let's assume he is revealed on the very next episode.

Will that retroactively make the previous abysmal episodes any better? It won't. They'll still have poor writing, plot and no character development. If you doubt it, try picturing that Marcus Pike is 100% RJ and rewatch the past episodes. It hardly makes any difference to their quality.

A good twist relies on interesting things happening ON screen and when the twist comes, it can be explained partially with some things happening off screen and a lot of hints and behaviours ON it. You can't just have NOTHING happening on screen and leave EVERYTHING happening on the background where the viewer does not see them, That's has an official term, and it's called "pulling something out of one's arse". That's lazy, bad writing.

A show that relies on a "9 horrible episodes then 1 great" is not a good show. It's M. Night Shyamalan's cinematic biopic.

Not buying any of it personally, but I wanted to express how frustrating all the teasing has become by now:

Marcus Pike and Lisbon sit at home, red curtains, red paintings, red red red red red.

He calls her and he offers an insight on the case by utilizing surveillance.

Restaurant scene, lisbon in a red dress, red ambient lighting, red red red red red.

And him appearing to manipulate her before he popped the question.

I wasn't even trying to look for these things, I stopped looking far into things a long time ago. They are just there in our faces.

Why are the writers doing this? It stopped being funny or interesting. This is cruel.

I'm posting this recent interview of Bruno Heller for "Templar", since he mentioned he can't post, along with some comments of mine:
-----------------------------------------------------
Since The Mentalist hasn't been renewed yet, will the writers finally
get Jane and Lisbon together in case the show's canceled? — JackieFunny
you should ask, Jackie. "It's a romantic finale rather than a
[suspenseful] finale," creator Bruno Heller says. But that might not
mean exactly what you think. In fact, after a quick courtship, Agent
Pike will propose to Lisbon. Will Jane give the couple his blessing, or
will he decide to confront his unresolved feelings for Lisbon? Either
way, Heller promises closure. "With the death of Red John, there's a
sense of tying [things] up and certainly this romantic angle is one of
them," he says.
----------------------------------------------------

What  relief! Thank god they're planning on tying up the Jane-Lisbon
loose end! The culmination of 6 long years is finally before us! The
saying "the night is darkest just before dawn" had never been so true.
Finally a ray of sunlight is on the horizon.

Nothing like covering such pivotal plot holes. The show would lose credibility otherwise :O

He promises closure on this quintessential matter as well. I trust Bruno Heller to deliver once again.

The Mentalist ladies and gentlemen. An 138 episode - long chick flick.

Let's
hope Jane and Lisbon ride the Citroen towards the sunset (which of
course will be deep red, just so they can crap on our faces on last
time).

"A broken clock is right twice"

Didn't Jane use that exact phrase
before when arguing with / about Kristina Frye? I can't seem to find
it, though I do believe I've heard him say it before, though take that
with a grain of salt, cause it is a pretty common phrase.

They sure love teasing people don't they?

Last time we show Frye she was in a perma-hypnotic state, believing she was a ghost of her dead self. We have no indication that she recovered, let alone go back to work in general. However it has been quit a few years since the incident, you never know. I find it odd that Jane wouldn't consult her regarding RJ if she had recovered before the 2 year break, so I guess if they go on that road, she must've done it during it.

Still it's odd that Jane wouldn't know about it. He doesn't seem to make a connection when talking to Abbot.

If she does come back, I want to think it's RJ related, but I highly doubt it.

My scenario is that if they bring her back, it will be for her to be the romantic interest of Jane. Which is fine by me tbh. I always thought of her as a better matching for Jane.

The chemistry between them was way more interesting and intense. She's challenging for him, has outwitted him in convo more than once, and he seems generally intrigued by her in more ways than one.

Lisbon is so one dimensional as a character. Lack of facial expressions,  and downright boring. There I said it. :D

Kristina is spiced exotic meal. Lisbon is a boiled egg.

Please share your thoughts on this:

I can't wrap my head around the CBS television executives.

The show is always delayed, or viewings are cancelled due to sports, events and whatnot.

Apart from that, it has been moved to the time and date "where shows go to die" as sunday evenings are being referenced,

Yet it still pulls a 9-10 million viewers domestic, with another 12-13 million of DVR viewings.

This show has everything against it (as of now, even crappy, shallow, uninteresting episodes), but it pulls an average audience still.

What could they be possibly thinking of replacing it with and expect to get the same results?

So, episode 20 is about Jane potentially standing trial for the murder of RJ.

Reading the comments below I found out that episodes 19,20 and 21 will be a "trilogy" of sorts all concerning a human trafficking ring.

This is what I thought when I read about episode 20:

That awkward moment when you realize that you could skip all episodes since episode 8, and still wouldn't have missed anything in this show. No character development. No information / explanations. Nothing.

What a waste these past (9 to 16) episodes have been. Damn. :(
