Who is Red John?

Theories of Mch (31)

Not a theory, more like a grudge:

This is a post from a Mentalist fan on an article discussing its potential cancellation:

POST-----------------------
Jisbon should have happened along time ago but no so what do the Dumb creator/creators do ''OK RJ is gone now let's give Lisbon a love interest'' Stupid Idiot's.Jane is Lisbon's love interest and visa versa since Season 1 and yet nothing at all for all of these what 5 to 6 years of 6 seasons with what about 22 to 23 episodes per season..What do Jisbon shippers get after waiting all those Years of not just waiting but still following along with each episodes story nothing maybe a O I love you Jane O I love you too Lisbon and maybe a Kiss then walk off in to the sunset. ( Boring, Stupid, Dull, Pathetic, Dumb, Pointless. etc etc ) I didn't ship for just a I love you and maybe a kiss it's been 6 Seasons and that's all we get. This Show can get cancelled it doesn't deserve another Season Dumb creators not giving Shippers anything for Years now.Bye Bye Mentalist.

The show feels as if it doesn't want to cling to RJ anymore.

I mean, even Baker himself said how tired he was of RJ in an interview at the time that episodes 1-8 were airing. He distictively said that Blue Heaven was the first episode he would be directing and he wanted to make sure that there's no mention of RJ's name in it.

There's a constant dismissal of past events in the post RJ episodes. Everything is downplayed, or brushed off in a sentence, as if it is of no importance or had any impact.

I got reminded of this during Marcus Pike's and Wiley's scene in this last episode.

Marcus asks Wiley what the relationship of Lisbon and Jane are, and as soon as Wiley gets to the wife and daughter part he gets interrupted by Marcus right before he says "murdered".

It's as if the show has abandoned its dark overbearing RJ tone for a case of the week formula.

I remember watching this show with my sister, week to week, back to back, right up till 06x08. She always were a bit frustrated with most of the "filler" episodes, aka any not involving or alluding to RJ.

This show's overarching story has always been that of Jane's revenge, a man reaching hubris and being brought down by a most tragic event. It wasn't about the week to week case per se, or Jane's life story. It was the chapter of the life of a man who after solving cases he cared nothing for, fell asleep on a matress placed in the room of his murdered wife and child, with the killer's brand still uncleaned from the wall.

That character's journey ended in episode 8, according to the writers, since RJ was apparently killed.
What followed up till now, as long as there's no end game grant design in store, must be one of the longest epilogues in TV history.

I find it sad that there are people on this site referring to others as idiots, blind, retarded or ghouls.

Those are simply called FANS guys, nothing more. Being an RJ fan means that you are a Mentalist fan. He was the character that gave the show the only thing that is missing now.

He made the protagonist's actions MATTER.

About Lisbon's potential love interest on the next episode:

- FBI Special Agent Marcus Pike, who debuts in Episode 16, is described as “a charming man with integrity, a blue collar cop with FBI smarts.

- Blue Bird (slang):
cop, police officer, security guard

- He is Mar

Haha, theorizing is fun.

SIMON BAKER interview post Red John airing:

Baker:You want to know something I've never talked about?

TV Guide Magazine: Hell, yeah!
Baker: All those times we heard the voice of Red John? That was me.

TV Guide Magazine: Seriously?
Baker:
Yes! In the Season 2 finale, when Jane was captured and Red John did
that "Tyger, Tyger" thing with the mask on? That was me. I played both
characters in that scene.

TV Guide Magazine: Wow. That's especially trippy considering there was a major theory going around that Jane was Red John. So in a way that turned out to be true!
Baker:
That was the reason I did that. There was a point where Bruno was
saying, "We don't know who we're going to cast to play [the masked Red
John]." I said, "Don't cast anyone! I'll do it." Bruno was, like, "I
love it! I love it!" So I put on a mask and did that funny, wispy little
voice. And for seasons after, whenever Red John spoke, I had to go
record the voice.

So it seems we've all been duped guys. The story arc was never well thought out, nor planned beforehand. It was just a series of cliffhangers pulled out of a magician's hat (fitting?) designed to keep us glued to the show for the next "clue".

Just another average, run of the mill show, with some brilliant, well executed and memorable stand-alone moments. It dragged on way past its expiration date post season 3 finale, as most of us felt but couldn't bring ourselves to admit because of the potential redeeming feature of the Red John reveal.

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this site all this time, and glad that I even took a small part in it. I believe it's time to leave this show behind us. It is now evident that the story has no answers, no potential wrap up. Even if it eventually gets one, we'll know now that said wrap up was thought out AFTER the story ended. Personally I wouldn't care for that, I prefer all your theories better.

All you guys have been wonderful, even the hotheaded ones. I attribute that animosity of some people towards others as merely passion for the show, which is acceptable.

Guys up to this point I felt all the theories of a fake episode were wishful thinking (including mine).

BUT

I remember watching the promo, and having the distinct feeling that PJ was talking to RJ in the church scene. A detail that made me feel that was cathing a glimpse of RJ's ring. The scene is on the extended promo only, and is up only for a split second, but enough for the eye to pick up and leave an impression. At mark 0:19-0:20, RJ makes a dismissing motion with his left hand. It is worth noting that no such scene exists in the leaked episode. But it goes further than that.

I checked again, and I could see it clearly. Determined that I was only seeing what I wanted to see and not what was there, I asked a family member who has no idea of the show to check that scene for me and describe to me the hand they see on that video part. I did not ask them directly, cause I didn't want them to be suggested and just see something that wasn't there. After showing them the scene twice, they said: "I dunno, he has a ring?"

That was enough for me to go on and get a few different stills from the extended promo video, just to make sure it wasn't a strange light angle or a nail.

And here's the final result:

P.S. I had to include the pigeon, given that no matter what Sunday brings us, that little guy will always be one of the most memorable characters in the show.

That awkward moment when you realize that a sit com (How I Met Your Mother) had a better mystery character reveal scene than one of the most enthralling Drama mysteries in the last years.

Funny little realization I just had:

A SMILEY painted in the victim's blood, at the most obvious place in a crime scene, a signature of an "artist with a strong sense of theatre"

I have read some people theorizing it was connected to clowns - carnival - Jane's past, but I think it's just what it is: a smiley in blood.

What does a smiley in blood mean? A comical approach to death. Rejoicing in gore. Having a "love for the macabre".

I think there has been a change of mind on the Red John identity between conception of the character and his apparent reveal. Seems pretty simple and straightforward when you think about it. But then again, I ghould be wrong.
