Ever since the beginning of the "new" Mentalist, we have been getting Red Herrings.
1) I'm going to paint the whole town Red - Patrick Jane
2) The name of the motel Grace was staying at.
3) The way Ardiles was killed seemed like Red John's doing, but what was interesting was the finger cutting that Haibach wanted to do just like Red John ordered.
4) And most recently, the psychic who told him to look "near a body of water". That is too much to be a coincidence............ but what should we make of these Red Herrings?
5) Also he is MAR............... (Marcus pike).
Coincidence or not? You be the judge.
Why is it that now they want to prosecute Jane? What happened that made them want to? Finally Red John is going to get mentioned after episode 8 for the first time.

Has anyone watched Margin call? Simon baker plays a "big baller shot caller" businessman in the movie. That suits him more than the role he's portraying now.
